coffeebaron: Cell sites are lock not by single cell, but LAC so there will be overlap. if this cell was locked out, then it may lock out half the south of the north island or something like that too.
alasta: There were a couple of (admittedly rare) occasions when my phone cut over to Vodafone outside my house in Southgate, Wellington, after I'd come back from a run. Because the 2degrees coverage in this immediate area is quite poor and the frontage of my home looks out over Cook Strait I was inclined to assume that it may have been picking up a signal from a Vodafone tower in the South Island or Cook Strait due to a lack of LOS to any local towers.
I also noticed my phone roaming at Christchurch airport a couple of years ago which was also experienced by other users around that time. This hasn't happened recently though.
