Do a search for SNR Tweaking if you're really not happy with that drop in sync and want to try get some of it back ;-)

but as others have said above it's probably normal moving from an LLU connection. Took me a while to to get my head around SNR vs noise margins, etc. The Fritzbox labels it confusingly - IMO it should really read "SNR Margin" where it says "Signal-to-noise ratio"

On your modem, though I don't think the web admin for most modems include the ability - I believe you usually have to drop to commandline/telnet/etc, or in the case of the fritzbox manually editing the modem configuration file. I haven't tried it on an ADSL connection with the fritzbox (only a TP-link and RTA1320 when I was on ADSL) but am currently running my VDSL connection tweaked. There are instructions for doing it in SamF's VDSL thread but I imagine it would be a similar process for ADSL with the fritzbox... you'll need to spend some time googling if you do want to try it.

And if something goes wrong all the usual "at your own risk" disclaimers apply. I believe the fritzbox manufacturers won't support the modem until it is returned to a "standard" configuration and I imagine snap also wouldn't be too keen to support it with non-standard tweaks in place.

thanks for the replies ....love to tweak it or could just simply put Technicolor telecom modem back on it .....but then what the point of buying this fancy fritzbox($65) aye ......

i think you probably have a different issue. do you actually get faster speeds on the other modem? it may be that you have a dodgy line and one modem is handling it better than the other, but your incredibly high ping could also suggest that you're using buba / on a legacy exchange / rural.

i think you probably have a different issue. do you actually get faster speeds on the other modem? it may be that you have a dodgy line and one modem is handling it better than the other, but your incredibly high ping could also suggest that you're using buba / on a legacy exchange / rural.

yeah i am rural 4.9km from the exchange (there's no plans in the near future to update our exchange to adsl 2, we only 10m from Hamilton ) getting the speed drop is painful

from seed-box yesterday on maxnet 425 kb/s Technicolor telecom modem (3.4mbits sync rate )

today from seed-box on snap 320 kb/s fritzbox (3.0 mbits )

bit of a loss

maybe snap is just slow :(

that maxnet speed looks impossible for the sync rate.

.4 megabit sync rate could be due to having interleaving on now, and off before, .. or modem ..

you should also be able to snr tweak to get your speed up slightly. but even with a good line i think 5 km is only good for 4 or 5 megabit sync rate.

if you are on buba, it may be due to snap not having enough low volume buba users, apparently telecom is meant to be the best isp for buba users as they get higher dimensioning per user than isp's can get.

i was on telecom before and was really shocking at night nothing would work you tube constantly buffering very slow....at the moment i can stream 480p youtube with no buffering
i have rang up snap said they have got interleaving off ...said we cant do much else to fritzbox to get your speed better ....they running a 24hr line test at the moment (not that will solve anything i say )

only way is to tweak the fritzbox any links sum people have done it looking at sum threads on Google

Snap isn't slow. I can happily torrent at line speed provided enough peers.

The problem is you are rural on what is probably an old ASAM with a few E1's for backhaul. Your actual throughput speeds will vary greatly depending on congestion at the exchange at the time.
