MadEngineer: TCP is self adaptive in that it slows itself down rather than constantly trying to flood (or fill queues of) a lesser connection.
If you watch a connection queue (speed limiter) it will quickly become defunct and settle as the link either side learns the speed.
It constant ramps speed back up too, especially with low latency. And doesn't really ever get the speed up international with high ping / packet loss.
There's been a lot of research into TCP behaviour over the years, and it's generally well understood that TCP/IP doesn't deal well with packet loss that doesn't signify congestion, which can happen on some wireless links.
the packet loss behaviour isn't "normal" and so some mitigation has to be done, or performance will suffer. but that's not about rate limiting international sites, but giving tcp/ip expected link behaviour.
how long should it take for the genius units to update themselves? I have no phone atm with the replacement router. has been plugged in since i came home from work.
