At the border of an exchange. John is actually showing as just outside of the area of the same exchange.

If you wish you can flick me your address and I can take a look at the Chorus Coverage Maps to see how far away you are from the cabinet / exchange. The thing with VDSL is everything needs to be perfect, you can't shortcut it, if you have more than one jackpoint in the house it's essential to grab a master filter or make sure that jackpoint is unplugged from the rest of the house / itself plugged straight into the ETP, the joints even have to be done properly with gel caps - soldering can add to the noise.

I don't approve of any VDSL installs done without a master filter, and don't know how ISP's get away with this.

Ok, the guy from Chorus was here and couldn't get a synch on his 3M tool either. Went back to the exchange and tried all sorts of things but according to him the card in the excahnge seems to have blown.

There's only one other VDSL in Eastbourne and he said that was dead, too.

Also his tool thinks I'm 1200m away from the exchange :-(

The line is back now, although a little slower than before (15320/1016). Also had a phone call form Chorus telling me the line was not suitable for VDSL as I would be too far away from the exchange. They said Snap should never have offered VDSL in the first place as it's ouf of VDSL zone on their map.
I nevertheless tried and pulled a direct Cat5 cable between the termintaion point and the modem (yes, all 3M gel splicers) but it did not change anything.

Will call Snap tomorrow and try to get back on ADSL.

For the record:
Line attenuation is 25/102 (receive/send)

That line attenuation is super high, I believe they don't normally even try provision when the downstream attenuation is higher than 10 or there about.

Real estate agent might be more helpful than 3M splicers in this instance
