So what services exactly does this open us up to? The text itself is vague, either that, or I am being dense.

Are we talking about things like Hulu for example?

I think it's worth asking the question why Fyx (well Vocus) decided to withdraw. The 'expectation management' issue identified in the above wall of text is a biggie - if Netflix blocks your IP range overnight then you have a lot of unhappy customers

Just tried this service, so far it works very well on Hulu and Netflix. Now just to find some international visitors ;)

Channel 4 On Demand (UK) doesn't work

If they never promise specific services, then they can't be blamed when Hulu (for instance) blocks them

Yup intentionally vague to the max.
I had to come here to confirm whether it was indeed some kind of ip modifying service.
It's a great idea if it works out and stays "below the noise barrier" as that Fyx article says (Wall of Text yes - but makes some good points!!!)

Once upon a time i'd have been very happy to have this, but only for the odd sports event not covered here that had a high quality streaming service from a foreign TV channel website. Now it's very rare that these aren't streamed online by other providers.

I'm sure it will come in handy once or twice a year if it works. Good on Slingshot for responding to user demand...

[Oh and my good lady is an overseas "visitor", whew!

Hmm Just enabled Global mode and I get this message

"We have detected that you are not currently using Slingshot standard modem settings. Please see Slingshot Help for configuring your modem to use Global Mode."

As far as I can remember, the only things I changed from ISP defaults are the SSIDs, wireless security and user accounts. Just about to have a look at the router, but pretty sure I didn't do any other changes to the settings.

Am I to understand if you are a Slingshot customer, you no longer have to pay money for a VPN service and instead just use this? I've been wanting to watch South Park episodes on the US websites for ages. I just get a message "We are working hard to bring South Park to New Zealand". I've seen that for several years now. I'm sure I'll be able to find an international visitor to test it out.

I wonder if having it on will impact browsing experience from non international content.

Seems you have to have the option to automatically get the DNS servers from Slingshot for this to work (Don't see how manually typing them in and automatically retrieving them changes anything?) verified before and after swapping to automatic retrieval, same DNS servers being used.

If it works anything like Unblock-us.com, then it shouldn't have any effect on local content, with the exception that it might need to bypass Slingshots cache system (not sure whether it will when it is slingshot who are operating global mode) and so you wouldn't get as good speeds on, say, youtube or other things they would normally cache

There was no legal issues back then. They simply had the ISP sold to Vocus and the new owners didn't want to provide the service.

Slingshot makes it clear this is for "visitors" when they're using your connection. Take as you want...

No, was actually pulled by the old owners before the ISP was sold, had nothing to do with the new/current owners at all.

Just turned Global mode on, and was unable to access my emails both through Windows live mail and the webmail portal. Turning Global mode off allows me to access them again. Has anyone else experienced this?
