xpd: Considering a VDSL splitter/filter is only $30 odd , charging $400 was a scam.

It is an average figure put forward by chorus.

They must drive to your house and back, time taken to correct the wiring, some houses might be a 1/2 hour job, others might be a 1/2 day job .

I guess they were trying to come up with a upfront known cost for everyone, rather than an unknown cost. Unknowns tend to scare people off.

What will this mean for the hopeful pricedrop of vdsl connections for people that were installed before this unnessacary wiring change came into place?

Since I dont have, and dont want a splitter for my single socket naked VDSL installation, will I be penalized in the new pricing?

sbiddle: It's not so much "free of charge" but Chorus have changed the policy now and charge a monthly fee to cover wiring rather than an upfront cost. The cost is still there but now recovered over time rather than upfront with the obvious intention being ISP's would factor this cost into the VDSL2 retail pricing.

Do you know if this extends to ADSL installs/moves as well? If so we could find splitters as common a Sky dishes (hopefully more common).

Think if I got line maintenance now I could get a filter installed without a one off cost?

Wiring maintenance doesn't (and never has) covered master filter installs.

As I've pointed out in my posts above it's totally a moot point as a filter is now basically mandatory and installed with an ongoing monthly fee for VDSL2 so there is no upfront cost.

We're offering the same deal - free wiring to new customers (Chorus make it back in the long-run).

At a wholesale level, no ability to back-date free-wiring to existing customers (from the docs I've got anyway).

The price you're paying doesn't include the cost for the wiring so you're not entitled to a splitter for free.

If you want a splitter it'll cost you the standard $199 price.
