All new VDSL connections with Snap now include “Connection & Wiring” installation (previously $402.50) completely free of charge.
A Chorus technician will install a dedicated VDSL compatible splitter at the premise demarcation (the point where services enter the building) and a new data grade cable to the selected DSL jack point within the premises.

no excuse now not to have a master splitter

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Considering a VDSL splitter/filter is only $30 odd , charging $400 was a scam.

It's not so much "free of charge" but Chorus have changed the policy now and charge a monthly fee to cover wiring rather than an upfront cost. The cost is still there but now recovered over time rather than upfront with the obvious intention being ISP's would factor this cost into the VDSL2 retail pricing.

Install cost was a median price covering the cost of truck roll and installer not just the filter itself.. obviously there were small jobs and big jobs.

And $400 was the full maximum cost for a new connection with POTS off requiring wiring. The actual cost of a master filter for an existing connection hasn't change for a number of years and is around $199

Just FYI every ISP pays the same pricing. It's not something exclusive to Snap.

So what is the wholesale price for VDSL now? Rumour was this was dropped to same as ADSL, which would not account for wiring being "built in" to the price.

Pricing has dropped but wiring is on top of this and is mandatory.

That's annoying. What if you already have cat6 to 1 outlet and already have an optimum setup? Do they still demand to come around?

Yes. Every Chorus VDSL install will involve wiring.

And the monthly price is dirt cheap now anyway so it's all good.

This is a really really good move by Snap. Just hope their core can take a whole bunch more 50Mb tails and that it won't slow down my linux iso's downloading on my poor old ADSL line.
