wafernz: For the life of me I can't understand what the problem is with just approving the update (is it a $ thing?)- especially when other carriers have had it for months? I'm disappointed with 2degrees too - My Mum and Brother both have Ativ S phones that I recommended they purchase. It does not seem like a big ask.

Out of curiosity Shoes2468, can you use the GSM divert codes http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=40&topicid=36945 on your Ativ S? They seem to work on my HTC 8X and could possibly relieve your issue until 2degrees approve the updates (perhaps you could put the divert codes in as contacts for quick access). Don't know whether this is of any help.

Thanks for this, it looks like it will work, haven't actually tried to change anything but the status seem to work fine,
Also looks like there is a new version of advanced call settings in the market with a release date of the 22/7 so I tried that, but still got the same issue. So I thought I would give 2degrees a bell see what they say, they didn't really want to know, and said take it back to the retailer, so if we don't get some sort of update here as to what is happening that is exactly what I will do sometime in the weekend.

2DegreesCare: We're chasing Samsung on this now.

I'm sure 2degrees support will get back to us imminently- Hopefully it's just Samsung dragging the chain.

So i Pmed 2degreescare an this is the response i got:
Hi thanks for the PM.

Our Senior Product Manager has sent off an email to Samsung regarding the fact that the software on the 2deg variant is older than Telecom’s. Our position is as follows: -

- 2degrees approved the GDR1 software update (Portico) in January this year
- Samsung (for whatever reason) delayed pushing this out to customers
- Samsung have now decided to combine the GDR1 and GDR2 updates together and we hope to receive this and start testing very soon.

If I hear any more updates on this issue I'll let you know.

Cheers

Thanks for the update, just hope GDR2 gets through quickly. Can't believe its taken this long for someone to realise the software is so old though

Just wondering if you're mother and brothers phone has the Same issue as mine and lueyyou where it tries to update the additional call settings and just fails and then you are not able to access the additional call settings in the settings menu?

Sorry for late reply. Visited mum tonight and her phone has the exact same issue you described. So this update definitely can't come soon enough. Also stops the 'extra settings ' app downloading too

Thanks for checking it out, I spoke to samsung about this issue and have since sent it in for them to look at, only went in on monday so it will be interested to see what they come up with? If they can come up with anything, the only thing I can think of them doing is to reflash the rom with a different rom of some description?

You are very optimistic, I wouldn't be surprised if it came back with portico or still broken.

I think you'd be lucky if it came back with Portico, that's still better than the rest of us

Well just got the 8.0.10327.77 update on my HTC 8X last week, so those of your with 2degree's Ativ S are now two updates behind?

This is why I prefer to buy my phones outright from non carriers.  Apparently unbranded Ativ S already have this update too.

Yes I have learnt my lesson this time, dont buy carrier branded phones - ever. But anyway so after a quick turn around from samsung I got my phone back last night, fired it up entered my live id, and the update failed exactly the same as it did before, the phone has got exactly the same versions fw and os versions as before, so what to do now? Ring samsung back again I suppose.

Did you have any luck with Samsung?  Maybe 2degrees have an update on how long their testing will take? (that way I can stop eagle eyeing this thread everyday)
