So after spending some hard earned cash on a new Ativ S only to find that it is still running the original release version of Windows Phone 8 I was a little annoyed, then to find out that the Telecom version of the phone has had the update for some time annoyed me a little more. And It seems I am not the only one as there are a few people over here http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=6&topicid=121031 wanting to know the same. One persoon even went so far as to ask on the 2degrees facebook page and recieved this response

This was all very well but I didn't really buy it as the Telecom handset had the update already, So I went ahead and asked Samsung

They had a different opinion however.
So can anyone shed some light on the situation, I have created this in the 2degrees forum to hopefully get some attention from 2degrees themselves, Im not really bothered whos fault it is but it would be nice to have a resolution sooner rather than later/never

I would be very interested to know this too - My brother and parents all have Ativ S phones are are stuck on the initial Windows Phone 8 release too. A bit of a disappointment really...

Carriers 2Degrees / Vodafone NZ / Telecom NZ do not release the update, Carriers only test the update approve / decline it then Samsung Korea pushes out the update

Hi, just had a reply from our Product Team. Apologies, Samsung are correct, our Team thought you meant the next maintenance release. We actually launched with this version so no update required.

Cheers

Thanks for looking into this, the update we are after is the windows Phone 8 OS update, currently all the 2degrees Ativ S phones are on 8.0.9903.10 , where as the Telecom ones are on 8.0.10211.204 which is the latest. So an update is required to get up to 8.0.10211.204, thats what we are all after.

There seems to be another issue with 2degrees Samsung Ativ S, http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=6&topicid=125722 Can't install the additional call setting update, just fails and that means were unable to edit the call forwarding and call waiting settings, is this because we are still on the old OS version?

*Sigh* still no news about this 2degrees? I have been with you from the beginning, but it might be time to start voting with my wallet and make the move to vodafone or telecom, I know this wont help with the update side of things, but thats all I have left, wish I could take this dud phone back for a refund, cant even setup/ modify call forwarding and call waiting settings anymore. This will most definitely be the only and last time I buy a 2degrees branded handset.

I see the GDR2 update to Windows Phone 8 is being rolled out around the world as we speak (some Ativ S's have already received this) - Perhaps 2Degrees are approving this instead and are skipping the Portico update?  Either way, I hope there is some update coming.  Running the initial release of Phone 8 is buggy.

Is it just a matter of a staff member at 2Degrees flicking an email to Samsung and saying "Hey guys, we've tested the update and it's sweet as on our network, now - go ahead and roll it out to our customers, they'll be ever so happy'?

Yes i see that, and if that was the case that would be just fine, but i would really like an update from 2d as to what if anything is happening. The portico update is extremly late as it is then the fight to even get 2d to acknowledge that there was avaliable and that they needed to approve it. So fingers crossed they skip straight to GDR2 and sooner rather than later, i need to be updating my call forwarding details sooner rather than later.

Like to add my weight into this as well, seriously 2 degrees your flagship Windows Phone not getting updates is a major embarrassment. Our work phones are restarting randomly sometimes and I'm sure the updates will fix this. Hopefully GDR2 update will come quick as well.

Get your act together please.

I think it might have to be back to the shop with mine it seems to be unfit for the purpose if I am unable to edit/change the call forwarding/ call waiting settings and have to reset the phone everytime I want to do so because if I accidently hit update all it breaks the advanced call settings option

For the life of me I can't understand what the problem is with just approving the update (is it a $ thing?)- especially when other carriers have had it for months? I'm disappointed with 2degrees too - My Mum and Brother both have Ativ S phones that I recommended they purchase. It does not seem like a big ask.

Out of curiosity Shoes2468, can you use the GSM divert codes http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=40&topicid=36945 on your Ativ S? They seem to work on my HTC 8X and could possibly relieve your issue until 2degrees approve the updates (perhaps you could put the divert codes in as contacts for quick access). Don't know whether this is of any help.
