gorringS: anyone think about actual proclaim vdsl filter that telecom maybe using is infact not complaint with vdsl. I had previously with my adsl a filter and on label it said it was vdsl2 complaint but when I tempted to use that filter I found line performance was horrid . I got one from ulteranative supplier making sure it was vdsl2 complaint one. Sure enough my line perfomance is at simliar distance to his person and im getting 33meg/10meg here so just thought to throw to all that replying here

Incorrect, a VDSL splitter is simply a low pass filter, and they're installed by Chorus and are in-fact VDSL compliant. Also welcome back, I thought after this post you were not planning to visit Geekzone again?

Common sense is not as common as you think.

the incoming line ie the black u/g sometimes runs to the first original jack and there is no etp quite ok to place master there.did chorus guy change master tovdsl type might pay to get a line test.

I had a similar issue, turned out the first mistake made by the first chorus tech was he connected me to an ADSL port, so I had ADSL Down speeds and VDSL UP speeds. Second mistake he made was to put a staple through the cable running from our entry point to the Master Filter. The second Chorus tech had both sorted in about 20 minutes. Then i was getting 70/10.

What do you mean by change to master and I'm worried about cost. If I get my line checked and no fault is found what is the charge likely to be?

So after many calls with snap (where most snap representatives agreed something looked wrong) snap have come back with an answer to what they think has caused these sort of sync speeds. Apparently there are 3 multiples on my line between me and the exchange. They claim that this will greatly affect the signal loss of my line without affecting the line attenuation figures. They've opted not to get a chorus technician out to investigate due to the cost incurred to them if no fault is found. They offered to put me back on adsl but my upload speed is to good to go back so I'll stick with VDSL. Overall snap have been great. I guess all I'm asking you guys before I'm satisfied is just for a second opinion on what snap have come back with.

Would line multiples (3 of them) Create so much noise that there would be that much signal loss without losing line attenuation?

Thanks guys for all your posts to date. :)

I am really unhappy. After 2 years with Unleash I switched providers. In the whole time I was with Unleash I had 70/10 speeds and it never varied. Switching to new provider immediately I was at 44/10 and it had built over time toward 50/10. Then one day for no reason it dropped back to 41Mbps.

I think I've finally found the cabinet I'm connected to, 900m away by road, no idea how much cable though, and I'm getting 45Mbps down and 10Mbps up. 12dB attenuation which seems rather high, but all appears ok.

I've had the same thing as networkn though, went up to 50Mbps, then down to 41Mbps, now it's settled on 45Mbps. Different SNR tolerances somewhere?

Yes, it absolutely could cause that degradation without showing an increase in attenuation. The only solution would be to try to get put onto a different line.

Depends how long ago the master splitter was installed.

Yes is it a low pass filter, but a ADSL2+ filter will not pass the VDSL frequencies.

We ran into this issue with the ADSL2+ splitters in our DSLAM kit when trialing VDSL cards.
