Well so far the response to my ticket is to restart the fibre box and modem, then disconnect the modem and reset it.

Both of which have made no difference...

Orcon contacted me to arrange some testing, but never met the call back appointment....

I told I was going to be required to speedtest to these two servers:
https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2940773331
https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2940791995

And also to download a 100MB file via ftp:

I downloaded the ftp test file and it completed in 2 minutes. It will not complete the upload, it estimated it was going to take 25 minutes and after about 10 minutes I get an timeout error: connection closed by server.
One thing I noticed is when uploading it will send about 2% and then hang for 20 seconds, then send another 2% and then hang and so on.
I am getting hangs on web pages etc. during normal browsing which I must assume it is hanging when sending requests out.

This matches the speedtest graphs where the upload speed will spike then drop to nothing and then spike again.

Update.

Got my testing done (thanks to Orcon for arranging so quickly) and new modem has been issued, hopefully this solves the problem *crosses fingers*

You may not be the only one experiencing slow uploads. But finding out if this is an Orcon issue, home router issue, other party issue will be hard. I live in Hamilton but note the Hamilton/Tauranga results below. Tested during the day and early evening, day time low .61 up to Hamilton, evening low 2.62 up to Tauranga

I was also not able to download from home to my work at more than 400kb. But then again that is a lot better than my previous results on ADSL.

Damn you table formatting, Comma's added.

Hi Browned

We are working on this :-) Did you manage to log a ticket?

DrDee is on the Enable network, which is run by the same backend company. So we are thinking its a pattern.

If you could log that ticket, it would help greatly in gathering statistics on the issue.

Thanks

DrDee

Yep I installed the new modem last night, let it set up and without touching any settings ran speedtest with same results.
Even tried resetting modem and disconnecting from my home network and connecting my laptop directly to the modem via ethernet cable, the laptop has not been connected to the fibre yet so it was a good way of ruling out any software issues on my main PC.
Still the same upload speed issue.

Like I said earlier, because I can see it peek and then drop to nothing, and then peek and drop etc. I think it is adversely affecting normal browsing as when sending requests it sort of does that hang where it does not appear to be sending any data and you get the browser hanging...

I don't know, i don't claim to have much networking knowledge but it seems to me to be software related as opposed to an actual hardware fault by the way it acts.
