I've never been anywhere near my cap, the 1am-7am is great and get excellent pings overseas which keeps the flat happy. Unlimited YouTube helps us out, can exceed 100Gb of YouTube a month. Speedtests often exceed 90/45 locally with around 4ms. Like Daniel, i'm happy to pay for what I wish to use, and the unlimited overnight and unlimited YouTube solve my major concerns around the cap.

toaster: To me unlimited is quality. 150GB equals to 6-7 hours of raw satellite feed footage. Not really useful when you have 20 HDTV channel subscriptions.

My Orcon plan has had 100% uptime since day one 6 months ago, my only complaint is the international speeds are much lower than advertised.

there are unlimited dialup plans for only $10. Why would anybody pick those over Orcon's $99 for unlimited? That's almost ten times the price!!!!1111OMGOMG1111!!!

Noticeable dip in peak time and that's national, suspect international has more variability too.

Also being cynical... it's probable that ISP's do some prioritization of speedtest and truenet tests over other classes of traffic.

Also they are likely whitelisting speedtest and truenet from shaping compared to other sites/services/protocols.

We only shape P2P and only shape internationally. We don't belive in gaming truenet results. We want out products to be the best based on true testing, not made up crap.

Not entirely sure whats up with the truenet 100mbit speeds. We had to do some work arounds with shapers to make the Chorus product work correctly. So thinking its something do with that, but doesn't explain the 8pm dips.

Its not backhaul otherwise the 30mbit ones would have the same issues.

But we are looking into it.

Because 100GB is enough for most people, and $70 is less than $110. Over a year that's $480 saved, which would pay a couple of power bills for most people.

Because the vast majority of households use < 100GB of data, and simply want a service that works for them - personally I use a significant amount of data per month (3-400GB) and Snap still works out relatively cheap for me because they zero rate offpeak and YouTube data - If you're using 1TB/mo then obviously that would not be the case. Price is rarely the sole consideration.

Not too sure where the sense of outrage is coming from...At the end of the day, as a consumer, the more options we have the better - if Orcon works for you, thats great. Snap works for me, and that's fine too. People have different preferences due to their previous history with ISPs (either good or bad), and regional availability as well I'm sure.
