150GB Snap fibre plan for $110

5000GB+ Orcon fibre plan for $99 (currently on)

I don't get why would anyone even consider Snap? Am I missing something here?

To me unlimited is quality. 150GB equals to 6-7 hours of raw satellite feed footage. Not really useful when you have 20 HDTV channel subscriptions.

My Orcon plan has had 100% uptime since day one 6 months ago, my only complaint is the international speeds are much lower than advertised.

I'm on snap and love it. Fast - great international speed, ipv6 (for bragging rights (yes, that may be sad)), great service....
The extra data packs give you unlimited downloads from 1AM-7AM as well.

For some of the reasons why I think it's better, check this thread out :-)

Edit - I'm highlighting the issue some people have with international speed on the unlimited plan, probably due to the pooling of unlimited users bandwidth.

Why are you putting words in my mouth?

I said actual international speeds are lower than advertised speeds. Two different things. I'm seeking clarification what exactly advertised speeds represent.

And I'm 100% positive noone from Snap would ever guarantee any Commited Information Rate. :-)

I've had many unlimited plans over the years, and there have always been issues.

With Snap I haven't had a single issue.

I'd rather pay for every GB I use and know that it will be delivered at full speed than pay for "unlimited"

Also Snap's support is fantastic. Nobody has bet it yet.
That and I just don't like or trust Orcon. I was going to sign up for unlimited but the unlimited section of their T&C scared me away. I don't care if they've "never had to use it", the fact that it is a possibility is enough for me to not sign up.

Why is Snap's metered plan better than Orcon's unlimited? Because you're not going to end up getting useless speeds :)

Yes, but what good is 150GB cap? At 100mbps you can download that much in a few hours.

Yes, but what good is 150GB cap? At 100mbps you can download that much in a few hours.

Sure (About 4 hours allowing for overheads) but that's pretty unlikely.

I've read quite a few times that anyone who uses over about 200GB of data per month is in the top 0.1% of internet users, and as such you are not really the target market of anyone. You're either streaming lots of video or you are buying new hard drives every month to store what you download.

I personally use about 300GB and I'm more than happy to pay for it.

I'd rather have 300GB at full speed than 3000GB at mediocre speeds.

I'd suggest you are getting quality and quantity rather mixed up.

The cap is 'quantity', and, quality is the reliability of delivering the data at peak rate. The more contention, the lesser speed you will get.

Snap offer unlimited between 1am-7am too (with data pack).

Of all the ISP's , I think Orcon gets the most complaints about poor speeds.

also, it doesn't just come down to the quality of the connection, but also the quality of the service

e.g

if your connection drops (as every ISPs connection does once in a while) what happens? do you have to spend hours on hold?

is your bill always right? if it is wrong, how easy is it to get resolved?

etc etc
