There are a multitude of reasons for removing the copper. Important to realise the situation has evolved over time but suffice to say the copper position of ufb installed premises cannot be guaranteed (it may have already been removed for technical or council reasons etc), and for future installs it cannot be guaranteed (same council regs and technical reasons). Hybrid cables have only just appeared.

Despite Telecom needing the copper to provide a pots service I do not know how they can guarantee to overcome all issues without relying on hybrid cable.

Orcon doesnt need the copper as stated. We built our products around the long discussions with CFB as to what the UFB buildout would look like.

A cloud based phone system, will probably work out better than you think. Could suggest the one compass offer, works great for a mate. we looked at it and we're keen, unfortunately we are in a contract with cogent.
