I guess have to have use up some more patients while I wait for this slow time to start.

I find it strange that when i go and do a speed test http://www.nzdsl.co.nz/module-Speedtest.phtml

I'm getting a speed rating of 1010kbps, on my 256bps plan. But the nets still slow, like 2kbps from cnet.com
A little to slow for watching a live webcast.

Slingshot (Ultra plus FS down, 128kbps up):

Xtra (adventure 10GB FS down, 128kbps up):

Both lines are in same household, come into the same room and are tested by same computer. The lines also go to the same exchange which is extremely close.
It is also worth noting that often speedtests do not indicate the maximum speed at times as in the past I have measured better results than the above.

I wonder if slingshot will be refunding or providing compensation.

My internet has been pretty much unavaliable since 5pm wednesday, and they say it wont be fixed untill sunday. (0800 89 8000, option 2) I do however seem to get 'pockets' of access. About once an hour the http traffic will work at modem speed for about 5 mins and then its out again. Im writing this during one of these pockets so I hope it works when I click submit.

This I must admit is pretty slack on their behalf.

Its also pretty weird because my email and bit torrent traffic is still going at full speed, yet any http traffic just doesnt want to go.

There are definately times where it is still dropping out.

However for the most part I think the network is nearly back to speed.

Yesterday I was getting 1.6mbs down and 133kbs up.  (man i wish i could afford the extra bandwidth up, would really help my skype video conferencing).

Does anyone know what settings are good for Slingshot.
I found I have to run ADSL light to keep it from disconnecting continually.  That limits me to 1.6 down or so.

Well you could say that it is back up to speed, but we pay for 7Mbps and we used to always get over 4 Mbps but the speed test that I did just now said 2414 Mbps. It's definitely an improvement but still not satisfying. Well, it's probably what you get when Telecom has been running the telecommunications for along time.

And Slingshot has been voted the best ISP.  Is it really true or am I dreaming?

unlocker: And Slingshot has been voted the best ISP. Is it really true or am I dreaming?

I just sent this to the PCworld and Netguide editors. I wonder if they will publish it:
Letter to the editor / mailbox

I am a customer of Slingshot.
Recently I visited the homepage www.slingshot.co.nz and was presented with a nice large billboard banner letting me know that they were voted NZ's best ISP from the netguide readers choice awards, 2007.

I think I must be dreaming.
At 5pm on Wednesday the 9th of May, myself and a large amount of their customers lost their internet access without warning. It is now 5pm monday and the slingshot 0800 network status report states that there are no known faults. The website's network status shows a current network issue (that will be resolved.... yesterday / Sunday). It says that they have made some changes, and a "small" amount of customers are affected. Today, my internet connection finally became usable - if I like clicking the refresh button 5 times and enduring timeout errors before I see any content. Up untill today, since wednesday, its been useless.

I have been looking at the geekzone forums, and there is quite a thread on the issue showing more of a problem than the status report leads me to believe. There is a post by one member that rekons they are changing their users over to transparent proxies.

Wouldnt it be wise for our 'Best ISP' to have issued a statement saying that they 'Will' be making network changes, or even let us know what the problem is, rather than say it will be fixed yesterday and not give a consistant message through both the 0800 and the website status reports?
Ahh for you see, our Best ISP is allowed to leave its users high and dry without an explanation.

I too am still getting poor/slow connections half dialup speed when reading parts of the web,
e.g. the c/net buzz out loud podcast 22mb is coming down at 2k and less.

It's been a whole week like this.

I havent listened since a few weeks after Molly left. I am also on annual leave at the moment and was hoping to catch up.
You just reminded me - My torrent speeds still seem to be going at a reasonable rate after 10pm and before 10am. I am also pretty sure they distribute mp3 copies of BOL through torrents. You may wanna have a look at bol.cnet.com if I remember right. It should have a link on there if they still do it.

I will probably later on as I cant even get to the c|net homepage at the moment.

Very slow at my place too, Mt Eden/Kingsland.  Thought it was flatmates and P2P but perhaps not...  Very annoying!  I also see that Slingshots fix date of 13th has passed and the message is still up on their status page

unlocker: Hi All! I live in Mt Wellington, Auckland and I am on 256K/128 25GB plan with Slingshot and experiencing extremely slow browsing speeds for NZ and international sites both. This has been happening since last one week only, it was running very well previously. Tried calling their support, there was a message that some users might be experiencing slow speeds and our engineers are working on it, have been on hold since the last 22 minutes to speak to someone, might give up after waiting for 8 more minutes.
Is anyone else experiencing the same problem??

I live in Mt Albert. The same provider, same plan and exactly the same problem. It's been over a month.
The speed of local traffic drops to 40 kbps at the peak hours (I use https://www.speedtest.net/index.php)
My friends have ihug ADSL and no such problems.
I sent an email today to Slingshot, asking about this crap.
Though have no hope for a frank answer.

I finally decided to endure the wait and ring up the service desk today. The guy said that the problems should have been fixed by now, however they have 2 more major changes to the network that they will be making. One on the 20th and one on the 23rd.

A mate rang up yesterday and was told that telecom has made some sort of change to their part of the network, which hasnt affected all of slingshot's customers, just some. I cant think how this could be as my torrent and p2p traffic is still at 4mb where as http traffic is at a crawl of about 76k.

Anyhow when I rang up, the guy spoke of them making this 2nd change on the 20th. This I believe could be what we are waiting for - for them to finish whatever they started. He also reckoned that the transparent proxies were switched on a couple of months ago.
The guy also said that they will be making a 3rd change on the 23rd which 'should improve my international speed'. I think they might be adding another international uplink or expanding on a current one. Unfortunately he wouldnt confirm this but to me it seems logical.

It  better work otherwise I will be moving to xnet faster than I expected. I have been a slingshot fanboy for about 2 years now.

Oh he did offer to give me a $20 credit. I didnt even ask - he just offered :-) I guess I will put that to a bandwidth block and use up some more torrent traffic since it seems to be going so fast.

I was trying to do some more banking today and couldn't connect to kiwibank.
So I phoned up tech support and they asked me to ping a few sites, the slingshot site avg time was over 2000ms.

Well the kind tech guy has sent a request through to accounts asking them to refund my months isp fee,
wow, nice one Slingshot, I see why your nz's best isp.
