Hi All! I live in Mt Wellington, Auckland and I am on 256K/128 25GB plan with Slingshot and experiencing extremely slow browsing speeds for NZ and international sites both.  This has been happening since last one week only, it was running very well previously.

Tried calling their support, there was a message that some users might be experiencing slow speeds and our engineers are working on it, have been on hold since the last 22 minutes to speak to someone, might give up after waiting for 8 more minutes.

Is anyone else experiencing the same problem??

About time, sorry this reply page just loaded. I'm on Slingshot and I live on the border of Three Kings and Hillsborough. I can't believe how slow this internet is going. We pay for 7 Mbs yet the speed that the internet pages are loaded is like being on an old 27k dial up modem.

We have had slow internet a lot lately. It is really starting to annoy me and I was wondering if it was Slingshot only or if it was just Telecoms lack off line Maintenance.

If there is a message about slow internet then it is obviouslly Slingshot and I hope their engineers get on to it soon. I can't stand it.

Ahhhhh.

I live in that area too :)

I have two DSL connections side by side: one slingshot - one Xtra...
The xtra one loads up pages fine, but the slingshot one is considerable slower (ie. takes about 10 seconds to open a page). This is on a FS down, FS up connection... and I am literally a stone throws away from the local exchange.

My xtra connection on the other hand is working fine. I know its going through to the same exchange and I'm pretty sure its using the same set of dslams too.

I recently moved one of my clients from Slingshot to XNet. They weren't really experiencing too many problems (as far as I was aware) with Slingshot. Though thay did have some issues more recently of their connection dropping out most days around lunctime.

Their comments after the changeover; "Why is XNet so much better? Don't they all come down the same pipe or something?"

Slingshot seemed all great in the begining, but alas like their italk product, they have never really progressed.

Cool.

Where is the local exchange? If you are getting much better speeds on Xtra, then lets face it, Slingshot must have some serious problems. I hope that this speed issue is only because of whatever their engineers are working on and that the speed improves soon.
Oh well, we can only wait.

Yea, when we first got slingshot, we had the 256k down speed. We then moved to the 2 Mbs speed. On both these plans, we got these speeds, sometimes just over them.

When we upgraded to 7 Mbs, the max we did get was about 4 Mbs, not too bad for just casual browsing, but now we are getting all kinds of slow speeds.

Slingshot is moving people back onto transparent proxies which seems to be jammed right now. My net was practically dead and I'm relying on Tor right now to browse which is slow but at least usable.

The nearest one near me is on Mt Albert road, which I happen to live closely by.

Its between three kings and royal oak.

Yeah I'm experiencing it too. It's also obviously quite a lot more noticeable during the evenings, I started noticing it about a couple of days ago. I haven't needed to use the net a lot at the mo but the times when i do to check emails or browse a few websites has been quite painfully slow and annoying. Definately not like what it has been like, previously I had been getting really fast speeds even in the evenings which was nice. i live in Te Aro, Wellington by the way.

I agree

Slingshots performance is rediculous.

Coming from Japan I hate new zealands internet.  I loved the 100 megabit fibre connection there (although it was throttled for peer to peer and they phoned you if you downloaded movies haha).

However - been hearing some great reports about X net, so thinking of changing to them.  Slingshot tolls are great though...

Man - I hope slingshot realise that in todays world poor service = lost customers.
People demand good service - wake up and smell the coffee slingshot.

Something is wrong Slingshot's network. Can't even ping google.com now. My friend has to come over to my place to Internet. He is going to call Slingshot tomorrow.

I have had slow slingshot for about a day now.  Did a speed test and it reported I should be doing full speed but I'm only on a 256k/128k plan. I looked at the slingshot website and they know it's going slow, and have said sorry, but it's going to be slow until Sunday 13th of May. Great, I wonder if they will give me a reduction on my bill for the reduction in speed.

The good thing is that May 13 is two days away so hopefully not much longer to wait for real broadband again. Although most things are never on time (not just slingshot, things in general).

I've found that it has improved a whole heap for me today, pretty much like it was before this whole thing started. (Knock on wood) Laughing

Really, lucky you.

My Slingshot is slow, when downloading the email saying that there was a new reply to this thread, It was so slow, I could see it showing: 34B of 1.38 KB

Now that's slow.
