Ignoring something isn't really an answer. Why put up with something that you shouldn't have to? It's not 2004!

johnr: Telcos have not removed the ICON notification,

Sorry I was under the understanding they had - from 2Degrees staff member in fact in Wellington when I questioned it.

So only going by information I was told.

But - any answer to my question about HOW you turn off the Missed Message SMS's?

2deg doesn't have the gsm indicator thing that tells your phone how many voicemails are on the server. when I was on Vodafone I had to ring to get it explicitly enabled.  AFAIK no Telco yet offers 'visual voicemail'.  Voicemail can be such a pain, I disabled it completely at one point...

SteveON: Its a text. Thats it. What happens when it rains? Do you complain or live with it? I cant believe there is a conversation on this matter. /troll.

Considering my OP was fairly labeled as a rant, maybe you and the other pinheads above of a similar nature can save everyone some time and stop disrupting threads you're apparently not interested in with inane negativity. And get some friends so you occasionally have some missed calls too.

johnr: 2Degrees could of removed it but I am not sure as I don't work for them

Thanks - not really asking about the lost ICON however :)

The thing is - today is a perfect example - I had five meetings. In those meetings I didn't answer my phone and placed it on silences.

When I got back to my phone and was really able to check messages, I had 18 missed messages. Only two of them were from people in my contact list, and none of them left messages. My phone already tells me this, so instead I had to go through and delete 18 SMS which really had no benefit to me.

I know it sounds small - but honestly 5-6 SMS per day when the phone does it anyway.

So on this thread, You and someone else stated to turn the functionality off. 2Degress person stated to turn off in messaging (however, I am pretty sure I have already done that once and it didn't help fix the issue).

So - I am asking how since no one has offered up how to turn it off, but have suggested to turn it off (which is what I would love to do).

You need to be able to leave it "on" though for when the phone call does not go through to the phone.

The voicemail icon via native phone functionality is another rant-worthy subject. I assume they have too many compatibility problems or something. Or they experimented and found more people spending the 20c per-time to check their voicemail if an explicit txt was sent...

But truly the spammed missed-call txts as you capably depict really pisses me off. I sometimes wish I had the phone # of the asshat who implemented it so I could spam them all on.

There is no need to personally attack someone because of their reply. Obviously no one who has read your post knows how to do what you are asking. I suggest you call your provider and if you are able to get an answer share it with everyone so that those interested can have the answer.

The answer is: at present it isn't possible to have message alerts on but not missed call alerts.
