FireEngine: Cool, I'll check it out on Thursday. Interestingly Telecom progress my address through their checker as VDSL Available which is laughable as we've only just been upgraded from ADSL1 via a Conklin in the cabinet :-)

Actually I'm a firm believer in Telco employees walking in customer's shoes, as a result several of us at Orcon are continually changing our connections and plans so we experience our own products and processes in our homes. If we all sat on the same plans with super-fast connections to our core via vpn then we wouldn't have much empathy with the user base :-)
I also manage to pull approx 120Gb/mth and my connection is (now) fast enough now so that my teenage daughters don't moan at our self-imposed in-house contention :-)

friendlymonkey: Curiously why is vdsl more expensive than fibre?

Ran some checks this morning and your address is coming up as VDSL unavailable. There are three results available, yes, no and "inconclusive". Sometimes different ISPs will act differently to an "inconclusive" result but here the Pre-Qual is definitely negative. Progressing your address through the Telecom site this warning comes up
So they have a heavy caveat there. Sorry but at this time either the Pre-qual is in error and some home Telecom are getting a different result or they have a wide interpretation of "unavailable".
Sideface: I applied for a VDSL2 upgrade at the first opportunity - at 9am this morning (see above).
Orcon promised connection "within 4-10 working days".
By 3pm I had an install date - 17 January (7 business days).
Not bad as 14 Jan was the best case scenario.
