Interesting, anyway ISP's can go above the default BS2/3/a package speeds upto a point (IIRC Chorus wouldn't prov more than 500mbit EIR on BS2) so if someone wants to really shake things up then they could go 250mbit or 150mbit or 130mbit :P

Everyone seems to be fogetting the 50/20 Mbps plans that are also available at a wholesale price similar to the 30/10 plans.

You know the fibre speeds offered by the ISP's are set by the FibreCo and Crown Fibre holdings right?

The ISP's have very little say over what speeds are available on fibre.

lol, Wrong. RSP's can add EIR blocks to any package you want.

And they have to pay extra for them....

How are myrepublic going to price below other ISPs if their costs are higher?

My opinion:
Unlimited Data - good luck with that. Don't mean to be cynical but lets look at how that's gone down in the past:

Release: Everyone is happy! Fast! Unlimited!
Shortly after: This is crap - super slow WTF!
Shortly after that: ISP no longer offers unlimited.

How about offering realistic caps (500GB-1TB) for high use users at a reasonable price. I am happy to pay for 500GB of VDSL2. That limit prevents idiots from abusing the system much better than idiotic "fair use" policies which are vague and do nothing to solve the issue.

Otherwise good luck - NZ Internet users in general tend to be divided into the vocal minority who want everything for nothing and the people that don't really give a toss as long as youtube and facebook work.

I wont be able to get fibre for a couple of years, but when I do look into provider options, I am interested in overseas speed and a connection which makes it easy to bypass region locking. ie Netflix, Hulu, iplayer etc.

Also interested in router options (if included in the package) which would make sharing these services to multple devices in my home with minimal difficulty.

I realise these problems can be worked around but judging by the number of post on this forum asking advice on how to connect smart tv, roku boxes, ps3 etc to netflix, it isnt as easy as some think.

Offering to provide such a service would have me looking more closely at your offer/product. (vrs Vodafone. telecom which I perceve as providing essentialy identiacal products)

Slingshot already have such a service they call "Global Mode" for "when you have US or UK visitors come to stay".  It's only a matter of time IMO before other providers follow suit...

What NZ needs is value added services like zero-rated youtube, voip & iptv.

gustov: If Myrepublic are going to offer the same old 30/10 and 100/50 speed plans than they may as well stay home in Singapore.

MyR's site talks about gigabit services. Of course, the pricing remains to be seen!

And? 10mbit EIR's like $1.10ish IIRC, You could create a product between the 30/10,50/20,100/50 if you saw a market. Anyway I was just correcting a statement that was incorrect

gustov: @plambrechtsen and @behodar

If Myrepublic are going to offer the same old 30/10 and 100/50 speed plans than they may as well stay home in Singapore.

Why do you think uptake of UFB is so pathetic and well well below what the Government predicted? Why is it that fibre already runs past hundreds of thousands of homes but the uptake is still something like a single digit percentage?

Why can't people be bothered to accept a 100% free install and free wireless router to switch from copper to fiber?

Well my guess is that the difference in speed between what they get with their existing copper ADSL connection and the 30/10 fiber plan is insufficient to motivate them to make the switch. But if the 100/50 plan was priced at the 30/10 plan, more people would see the speed difference and switch to fiber, that would make it truly worthy of being called "Ultra fast broadband". But people sure aint racing to pay a $30 premium to get 100/50.

Meanwhile Chorus, is crying poor, threatening not to fulfill its contract with the Government to roll out fiber, because the Commerce Commission has ruled that its copper ADSL prices are overpriced and have to be reduced.

To be honest, I think you are completely wrong.

It will be something new which people want where they will require UFB rather than DSL. E.g. maybe a new technology will come out that lets you have a hologram of your family for "holo call" and that needs UFB - or if Sky launch all sports channels in 4k and that NEEDs UFB. That will be what drives uptake and what initially drove uptake for the original internet and connections. UFB is just a means to an end - it needs to be an exclusive means for something
