Any word on whether 2Ds agreement with VF will allow 2D users to roam onto VFs 4G network when out of 2D coverage zones?

Sitting in Parnell this morning turn on my phone and notice the 4G symbol appear. Only one bar however. I guess the CBD area has been switched on for general use? Am on prepay and not part of any beta

2degrees customers will only get 4G when they're connected to our, 4G activated towers.  Here's our latest Coverage map with the areas covered by 4G.

I have a S4 Mini that is running a 4.4.2 non-branded (but official) ROM.  4G definately works as I was in Dubai a few weeks back with a local SIM and 4G worked fine. Also tried earlier today with a Telecom XT sim and it worked.    Im in the CBD in Auckland now but only have 3G,  Is there any way I can have it enabled?

Does LTE==4G in iPhone 5s speak? I just checked your coverage map and noticed I'm in the lighter purple area of your 4G coverage. I turned off Wifi and get 'LTE' in my status bar.

The impression I get is that with Samsung, if the original firmware is 'NZ aware' it will not have 4G enabled for 2degrees and will need an upgrade to enable it. What area does the official ROM you are using come from?

The ROM is one for the UAE.  but 4G workd if I put a XT Sim in it, so I dont see why it should need an update for it to work, when I have the XT Sim in it under mobile networks the LTE option appears under mobile networks, when I have the 2deg Sim in the LTE option doesnt appear.

Surely there must be some way to make the phone aware its in a 4G area or a way to enter your number and send the settings to the phone

Don't think so no, not unless you want to go the route of flashing a new ROM or possibly modem.

It may just be a modem thing if so flashing modems with a Samsung device is extremely simple and dosent wipe a thing.

Any guides on how? Id assume with Odin and some rom file  if 2degrees had some S4 Mini roms anywhere preferably in 4.4.2 id happily flash my phone with that ROM

I managed to get it to work, I did however need to root my phone.

Then done the below

1. Run Root Explorer
2. Go to data/property
3. Find persist.radio.lteon and edit
4. Change false to true , save
5.Reboot

Then I was able to select 'LTE' in the mobile networks, and then 4G worked for 2degrees.   Not the 'warranty friendly' way of doing it, but it worked

2degrees roaming to vodafone only works in "larger regions" that they don't service.  it's pretty moot, in the end unless you're hoping to get coverage in lots of tiny towns which aren't likely to have 4g anyway.

Vodafone's nationwide 4G coverage is getting huge these days.

Recently added to the 2 Degrees web site re. HTC One M8 4G connection.

* The HTC One (M8) is 4G capable via a simple software upgrade once this has been approved. We expect this to be released in early August 2014¿.
