We have over 200 domains with 1stdomains. I couldn't say a bad thing about them!

Sure, could have used bank payment. Or they could have a total price including the PayPal fee, and absorb the costs, as many other business do, so you as a customer know exactly how much you have to top-up.

I've got dozens of domain names with Orcon / iServe and didn't receive anything either! Yes, my contact email is up-to-date and I do receive renewal reminders ok from them.

Yes, renewal emails flow just fine. But didn't get anything about .nz domains from Orcon.

Convenience fee:

Since I have quite a few domains with them I just shove $30 per domain in, it covers them for a full year. Quite a bit cheaper than many other providers and enables me to use DNSSEC. I've never had a bad experience and will continue to recommend them. I use them quite often for bringing up a domain for a month to test things so having a positive credit really doesn't matter with me - they're a prepaid service.

We used to use them but they didn't have a reseller type platform, so very difficult to manage hundreds of domains. Voyager who now owns 1st domains, purchased affordable domains which is a reseller platform and did wholesale pricing, but I don't think they offer that anymore to new customers.

That's a shame, I used Metaname as Iserve/Orcon were at their usual level of doing nothing (they don't do .kiwis either) and found Metaname to be great - really responsive. They do state the following under their pricing tab:

Payment methods

Metaname accounts are maintained as pre-paid accounts from which registrations and renewals are debited.

There are three ways to top up your account:

Credit or Debit card
PayPal account ( if you have one)
New Zealand bank transfer

Credit and Debit card payments are handled via PayPal although you do not need a PayPal account in order to pay with a card. PayPal levies transaction fees on all payments made via PayPal although such payments are credited to your Metaname account instantly. Credit/Debit cards or PayPal are best for urgent top-ups.

NZ bank transfers are free and are typically credited to your Metaname account on the next business day although may take longer especially over weekends and public holidays.

So at least you know fees will be levied in advance. Any problems and I've dropped them an email and had a near instant response - have been waiting months for some responses from Orcon.

At last received an email from Orcon:

You should have recently received an email from Orcon advising you of the upcoming launch of .nz domain registrations directly at the second level.

With the release of the brand new .nz second level domains, we wanted to quickly follow up and give a bit more information about the domains that you have, so that you can start the process of registering or resolving those if you wish.

The following are your current numbers of registered domains with Orcon in each status.

Available – 1
Conflicted – 0
PRR – 1
Reserved – 0
Resolved – 0
In order to check which specific domain is in each state you can visit www.anyname.nz. Alternatively, we would be happy to provide a list of each of your domains and their current status; if you would like a list, then please contact our business support team on 0800 19 19 19.

No idea which domains they are talking about here. It would be a lot better if they woud list the actual domain names in the email.

Yup I just received this email too and immediately thought of this thread.

In my case I've got:

Available – 4
Conflicted – 5
PRR – 43
Reserved – 6
Resolved – 0

Would have been nice to have had a list in the email rather than contacting them for it.
