Are you able to advise how your disconnection fee is calculated?

The charges are detailed at http://www.snap.net.nz/snap/termsofservice

The termination fees are not reduced throughout the contract period. Technically, although Snap may not enforce this, they can require to you pay $499 early termination 23 months in to a 24 month contract.

RalphFromSnap: Hi JayADee

Can I ask why?

We think we've got a few runs on the board where if plans have been improved or new offers come out then we pass those options through to existing customers. We also try to be really accomodating around things like plan upgrades (eg move from DSL to fibre, no new term required), or move addresses (no new term required).

Cheers
Ralph

Hi Ralph,
I think I can take a shot at that one (I got the upgrade letter the other day too).

Here is my scenario:
I am on vdsl 100GB plan on contract until early next year which has a base fee of $95. Just at the moment I have the extra 100GB add on in place for an extra $15 (meaning $110) - usually I don't.
However for the purposes of 'contract' I am obliged to pay the $95 amount.

So, I get the offer to go unlimited for $10 more, which means I have to (a) sign up to a new contract, and (b) pay $105 / month.
My usage is usually in the order of 50 - 80GB, but even if I stick with the 100GB add on at $110, once my current contract comes up I am free to re-assess everything. Rather than lock in until late 2016 and paying $10 more than I have to now for the privilege?
Simply not attractive. I expect deals and ISP's will change a lot between now and late 2016.... It's nothing personal, right now SNAP are great, but in ISP land 2 years is for ever, and paying extra to have the privilege of starting a new contract? Sorry.

If I could do $110 unlimited without extending my contract, sure.

Someone asked this earlier in the thread but didn't receive an answer.. So just to clarify:

I'm on the Lightwave Home Ultra 24 Month plan for which I pay $95 per month and receive 150GB at 100mbps down/50mbps up.

Am I eligible for the $10 unlimited upgrade? And if so, will I retain my 100/50 speed or will I be dropped to 100/20?

I asked this same question in another thread when the offer was first announced.

To quote Ralph:

  Hi kingjj

Good try ;) How about this?

Your current deal is 100/50 for $95/m (was $110) plus a 250GB data pack for $25 = 400GB total for $120.

Why don't you move to;

200/20 for $110 plus $10 U/L deal = $120 total. So for the same as you're currently paying you move to 200Mbps and get U/L data. You'd just need to re-commit to a new 24 month term. Seems like a pretty sweet deal to me ;)

Cheers
Ralph

When queried about staying on 100/50 plan the response was:

Hi kingjj

The other option that you could consider is this - move to (now retired, but we can make an exception!) 100/50 Unlimited for $139 - $15 (your current promo disc) for new total of $124. Personally I'd still be moving to the 200/20 UL for $120, but if you want this other option I'm happy to make it work. Let me know which one you want, your account user name (feel free to PM), and I'll arrange.

Cheers
Ralph

Hope that makes sense.

Hmm ok thanks for your reply, that's helpful.

In that case I think considering we don't really use/need more than 150gb per month I'm probably best off staying with where I am, 150gb 100/50 at $95. Get the faster upload and save $30 or so per month.

Hmm I signed up for the unlimited promotion.

However before I can switch to the new 100/20 speed plan, my Fritzbox 7360 has to upgrade to a new version of firmware.

And Snap support told me there were some issues in the upgrade, so probably I still need to wait another week for them to fix the problems.

A bit frustrated...

Well I was going to upgrade this morning to the new unlimited offer, but then decided I better read the terms and conditions )

Guess I think I will not be upgrading cause I found this:

QUOTE: At the conclusion of the 2 year contract term, pricing will revert to the prevailing Unlimited pricing for the relevant services.

Methinks my 200GB for $87 a month will be staying as it is :)

Eugh....that should be more clearly identified.
Or I should start reading T&Cs...

It should be more clearly identified. Its not obvious in the email I received advertising it. It is a click out of the email to find out. I wasn't advised when I signed up.
I'm sure it won't matter in the long run. :>
