In my case I'm keen to 'upgrade' to a monthly plan with 2D, for the increased death primarily, but if as they won't transfer my 'banked' minutes, or trade them for data even when I'm signing an UPWARD contract i just can't justify doing so.

In my case, I have around 1000 minutes banked, and am planning to go 'naked' at me next home, so want to keep the minutes even though I currently don't use many of them.... Isn't that the whole POINT of rollover??

floydie: it really %^&$'s me that being loyal to a company gets you shafted rather than rewarded.

Sky TV is the worst offender there. Their condescending attitude, comparing the pricing of services to goods, I find quite disgusting.

I recently switched to Skinny from Vodafone because after thirteen years, nothing really got any cheaper. I figured I might as well save $3 per month. With the introduction of smart phones and the need for data, they've just found a new way to extract money from us, and phone services are costing more than they ever have in the past. I haven't seen a $2 for every $1 credit promotion from Vodafone in a long time... that was a good way to reward and retain customers.

Now it's all sweeteners to get new customers. I look past all that nonsense. If I can't get the price permanently, I'm not interested. I am definitely not interested in signing up for 12 or 24 month plans, and even less so plans which revert to the relevant pricing at the end of the term.

As for 2degrees, I had two accounts, I let both of them expire. I figured it was best to cut my losses rather than pay more to keep credit I would probably never use.

Well the 'nice lady' on Helpdesk told me otherwise... Can I take that as a guarantee and upgrade with the understanding that "Salty said so" ? 😄

It's not a bad deal - I'm on it, and am fairly happy with it. To be honest I use about 20 of the minutes a month (and consequently have over 1,000 minutes accumulated on carryover, that I will never use before they expire) and send about 20 texts a week. I do, however, have to be careful not to breach the data allowance. Personally, I would be happier with half the minutes in the current plan, and a cap on texts, in return for a material increase in the data component of the plan. If Skinny/Spark or Vodafone offered such a deal at the same price-point, I would probably change over to them.

If they doubled the 500 megs on the $19 they'd have to double all their plans to make their higher end plans still attractive and that will certainly force other providers into changing their pricing/data amounts.

That's not a bad idea. Cut down the minutes and txts, increase the data. Done!

Being able to trade data for minutes and vice versa would Be a novel solution, maybe be able to trade 50min blocks into 100mb blocks?

It is $16 for the same thing on Skinny and has been for a long time.

The only drawback w.r.t. Skinny is the data does not carry-over (minutes do), but for anyone who routinely uses most or all of the data anyway, it's not worth the extra 20% cost.

2degrees are no longer price-competing which was their original MO. And as touched on above they don't reward loyal customers.

Telecoms are like energy companies, if you don't change once a year you're probably getting screwed.

If you go over your data allowance and buy data packs then rollover data is a win as you bank any plan data while you use your data pack, likewise if you manage to bank any data that's worth $1/50mb which narrows the cost gap a little

Overall 2D still offer the best in class value across the board which is why i changed back after vowing never to go back there again :P , at the end of the day I am more than happy with 2D as a provider, they have come leaps and bounds over the last couple of years

Vodafone won't move until Spark moves and as they own Skinny it's unlikely to happen..

It certainly feels that way. Been with 2D for 4 years and I'm just no longer seeing the value. I plan on jumping to Skinny.
