toejam316: If you're using the router they hand out, you can go into the settings, go under parental control, and use the DNS settings to force the Roku (and only the Roku) to use the My Republic DNS, while letting everything else through as normal. You can also set it to the router (which will be My Republic DNS unless you set it manually), or any of a variety of DNS you choose. So I'd suggest forcing the Roku to use the MR DNS using that and just leaving it on - it's how I'm doing my Chromecast's DNS.

Where abouts in parental controls would you do that? all I see are details for which computer has a schedule for accessing the internet. I have the ASUS RT-N56U with the latest firmware 3.0.0.4.376_3637-g7e47dd7.

I am assuming that all the Myrepublic FibreTV channels will work on any PC connected to the Myrepublic service and if I have a laptop connected to the TV all will be good ? [my install is next week]

I assume the only reason Roku/Chromecase like devices are used is to allow wireless streaming from the Myrepublic Internet to the TV

Note our Panasonic TV only has apps for Vimeo, Quickflix and Ustream

I have found that Sky TV's SkyGo service is a fail, unless using a vpn back to NZ. This is on iPad and web browser.

On multiple Android phones, Pandora & IHeartRadio will work over wifi, again, only if a VPN is active. Fine on 3g
Both fail on FireTV Stick and Roku

It seems that their service is not "NZ based" in the eyes of these common Apps and I thinkthat this is quite a serious issue. Enough, that if not rectified, then I may not carry on after 3mths.

Also, Netflix on Roku failed, after previously working with other ISP's. I'm not sure if this was an issue with a Roku update that forced NF thru 8.8.8.8, which I have got around by blocking it within the router. Things I don't expect to have to do if it is an issue at the ISP.

Netflix on iOS, Android and the FireTV stick works fine without VPN

I'm not sure if this is a MY Republic issue or Other.

Can anyone else connected with MR confirm the same? I want to escalate to them, but would like some confirmation from other clients, first.

Netflix on Android only worked for a short time for me, then stopped working. I got my Roku 3 device working by routing the google DNS 8.8.8.8. At this stage I don't think I will be continuing after my trial, my speeds are not as good as Vodafone and the custom routing on the gamer plan does nothing, infact my ping is higher. The FibreTV was a big deal for me as I did not want to have to deal with DNS unblockers but it seems they do a far better job, a lot of the apps I have tried don't work here.

I think the custom routing thingy is for game servers only!

Interesting reading.

I got an Apple TV from Wifey for Christmas and Netflix is working fine (I got a US Itunes account and changed region settings for the US) - No worries.

HBO Go doesn't work (As described above)

Yet to try Sky Go, I didn't get around to watching any cricket, but I do have a static IP as opposed to CG Nat, so I wonder if that will make a difference or not.

As stated you must sign up for your initial Roku account on the website using a VPN/DNS Redirection Service AND use a US address to install US Apps on your devices.

Netflix:
Newer versions of the app on various devices are hard coded to use Google DNS Servers (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4). You MUST block/blackhole/NAT these addresses or you will always get a wrong region error.

When creating a Roku USA account MR smart DNS don't work. I had to use a chrome dns unblocker extension to make this work. A lot of apps still don't work though, but the main ones do.

I sure hope we are not forced onto netflix NZ when it is released in March, the library will undoubtedly be tiny.

I actually think it is My Republic's issue and have emailed them so.

They purport to be a NZ ISP and therefore any service that is NZ based, but geoblocked elsewhere, shouldn't be affected.

Right.

Just done a reverse lookup on my static IP and get this:

nslookup 101.100.140.14
Server:       172.16.1.1
Address:   172.16.1.1#53

Non-authoritative answer:
14.140.100.101.in-addr.arpa   name = 101-100-140-14.myrepublic.co.nz.

So it seems that IP's are myrepublic.co.nz which is a start.

I've had quite good email communication with Caleb and Kim throughout my install process. I sent them an email the other day re these issues and had a response to the same effect. I hope these do get sorted.

MyRepublic have just replied to me on Facebook and said that the issue should now be resolved.

I'm at work at the moment so can't check until I get home.
