I hate to say it, but your signature signature sums you up nicely. Out of all the people in the world, the Brits come across a lot as whingers.

As someone suggested, you could always pay the bill on time, but if you don't, Slingshot send a reminder notice. So you must be a month out on paying.
I also think if they cut your internet off, you would complain about that, so the simple solution is to pay your bill on time or within a couple of days of receiving it.

Oh and that first post was really hard to read.

MrJonathanNZ: I would say "just pay your bill" but that being said the whole idea of penalties bugs me.
I realize they are a deterrent but its not like they are providing any extra service to justify the extra $5, its like banks and their missed payment fees, they don't lose any money at all but charge you none the less.
I honestly think they love late payers for this very reason, its easily justifiable (to them) easy money.

It does cost the provider though, because they don't have that money in the bank to pay staff, tax etc, so potentially have to borrow fro elsewhere (allocate money from other parts of the business etc). Also it incresaes admin costs, as a staff member may try to contact the later payer, or send a follow up reminder etc. It is also not easy mney as it is a hassle to follow up late payers, and business would prefer not to do it. So people who think there aren't costs involved, have never run a business before.

Slingshot aside, just out of curiosity how would a doctor cut you off for non-payment of treatment already given? Cut your leg off, maybe? Sure, you might be denied future treatment but you already have the benefit of the treatment not paid for. Maybe a sign in the surgery threatening injections with dirty needles for late payers? My guess (and that is all it is) is that the extra $5 is an administrative charge to cover added costs involved in bookkeeping, re-invoicing, or whatever. Big companies won't notice this but for small businesses it does make a difference.

I pay mine weekly at a little more than I need to so at the end of the month I'm always in credit that way I'm never late and never incur late fee's

Or just pay the exact amount shown on your statement a few days before due date and not be in debit or credit. :-)

Why do people even expect credit? The business I am involved in people have to earn the right to get credit, payment when the job is finished thanks!

People that are late payers are rude and inconsiderate in my view, they are also usually the first to whinge when people don't turn up on time to do work for them

I have my internet (and most other bills) being paid by direct debit, makes things like this a thing of the past.

I always thought if you were going to take advantage of a service from a person or company for a fixed or flexible fee you agreed to pay that fee.
Now when the time for paying said fee you want to 'leave it for a bit' and keep using the service and expect this person or company to be just fine with it....

This is the sort of thing I get irate over.
You take something, sign a statement saying you'll pay for it and then piss about paying for it.

You sir are a bludger, plain and simple.

Do you go to a grocery store and take food and just walk out the store without paying for it?
Bet you don't, so why do you think you can do the same with an internet provider?

And I agree, your first post was mighty difficult to decipher.
