I give slingshot about a grand a year , have done for many years now. They provide me a service I pay for it or I wouldn't have the service they can turn it off , till i pay that is as they are not stupid they know what a customer looks like. So I go to the doctor 4-6 times a year each visit is about 10 mins and he gets what a total of about $70 per visit? so $420 an hour.

Both of these have something in common. They both add $5 to any amount outstanding at the end of the month.

I can hear you goody two shoes, church on sunday, dams a swear word mob saying well they wouldnt if you paid your bill well ...flu you! thats not the point

Breath Breath.... is it just me or does it p*** off anyone else

I would say "just pay your bill" but that being said the whole idea of penalties bugs me.
I realize they are a deterrent but its not like they are providing any extra service to justify the extra $5, its like banks and their missed payment fees, they don't lose any money at all but charge you none the less.
I honestly think they love late payers for this very reason, its easily justifiable (to them) easy money.

The new Greek government has an astronomical unpaid bill at the end of this month.
It will cost them more that $5 if they don't pay.
Be happy and pay your bills like the rest of us smile

Pay it ontime and no problems. Google have a free calander that is part of gmail, I think outlook.com has something similar for free in their free email product, and all mobile phones have calanders on them.

Or you will become like that other guy who got many reminders and cut off and then complained. Dont be that guy.

Because people pay late, a debt recovery person/team have to exist. They don't get paid in the good intentions of their customers believe it or not.

I dont see why those of us who do not pay late should have to find the teams of people who are lodging things with collections, calling people, the interest lost for the company due to the lack of payments and any of the other costs that being late gets.

If they did it the other way like the power companies do with a "discount" for paying ontime then noone would be complaining, but they have chosen to be honest and show it for what it is, a discentive for paying late.

in saying that, I think it should accrue on a daily basis from the date of the missed payment, since otherwise you figure that "ah well, they have pinged me for being late, can leave that till next month"

You see in my mind you are missing the point

Why not If you dont pay your account by x date we turn it off easy why dont they do this ? the same reaso i suspect that video rental companies use to make 20% of revenue from late returns

Who remebers the old days when you got a bill statement and at the bottom it had 30 days 60days 90 days 120 days and little boxes so it could show you how far behind you were . You se i took that as they were prepared to wait upto 120 days for payment...that makes sense doesn't if you are not take it off your statement

I know i'm going on about this but there has to be some kindred spirit who agrees!

If you want to stop speeding put limiters on cars
If you want to get people to pay bills on time cut them off when they dont
If you want to stop drink drivers ban them for life when caught
and so on its simple
But But if they did that revenue goes down

so all in all no real answer or solution $5 ? just pi*** me off is all

(Graham puts his soapbox back in the cupboard till next time)

Please edit your posts properly before posting them.  I want to read them, but I don't want to spend three times as long re-reading them over and over just to decipher what you're trying to say.

Those are to show you how badly behind you are.

In commercial situations, terms are normally full payment by 20th of the month following the invoice. 60 days shows the things that have gone 2 months etc. If you have 120 day amounts on your statement I would expect that you would be off to collections.

If you seriously think that its ok to not pay things till they are in the 60 or 90 days of a statement then you are really taking the micky with your suppliers. It has always been 20th of the month following and most places I know would put you on stop on the 30th of the month as that gives you 10 extra days to sort out getting your payment processed.

Me too.

Tried reading it, but gave up on the third attempt.
I think some of the sentences merge in with other statements, without any warning to the reader.

Can we charge people for poorly written posts too?   tongue-out

I have to admit the 20 odd years I spent in business for myself were spent in Australia!

I should say that I am only commenting on my experience in small business.

Business sole purpose is to make a profit. As an owner your responsibility is to make that happen, in which ever way is possible. As long as you walk the line and don't cross over.

It can be "lifestyle' " gives meaning to my life" "I like to think that I am creating employement" "I am part of a community" "Our products are creating a better world"

If you want any of the above fine but bottom line PROFIT.
