I had been monitoring network latency via a VPN service in Auckland; I just realised I could postprocess my logs to work out when the latency here in Whanganui shot through the roof.

Looking at the spreadsheet that generated this, the jump to 30ms occurs on 3 March at about midday.

Update: this got fixed a week or two ago.  Sounds like it needed escalation to their backhaul supplier.

30 ms for Invercargill--Auckland on UFB looks pretty good for me. Wellington/Christchurch etc.. will be routing via Auckland so that's why ping times are higher for those destinations even though they're geographically closer.

What about for Australia ? speedtest website aside even on ADSL i was getting 60-75 on most game servers , And I am still getting around that on Fibre i thought it would of improved . Pureplan static ip if that helps.

EDIT forgot to mention on above post , Bottom 2 results are from ADSL line

Could you show us traceroutes rather than ping times on the speedtest website?

I understand MyRepublic's network forces all traffic to go through Auckland, so ping times are (ping to auckland) plus (ping from auckland to destination).

There are two potential issues: one is latency between you and MyRepublic's core router in auckland, and the other is latency between that and whichever server you are trying to connect to on the internet.  Traceroutes (tracert command in windows) will show us both those values.

Joy.  Pings up to 20ms.  Not as bad as it was, but not as good as when I joined (~12ms).

I see the Gamer plan is now advertised as merely having a "optimized gaming experience," maybe they got sick of latency complaints?
