Had an issue a while back (when still on unotelly) with the BBC iplayer site taking around 1 minute to load. Once up the content would stream ok. The page would come up instantly under vodafone DNS. Tested with another geo unblocker - it was still around 1 minute to load.
I put a support call into unotelly and they said it was the way the ISP was routing traffic to the address of the CDN (content delivery network). It appeared to be going via the USA and was adding a huge overhead to each packet of data. They said they could not do anything about that. The actual streaming content was coming fairly directly so was ok.
The reason the page would load quickly with vodafone DNS is that it was pointing to the international version of the site and the traffic routing for that was fast. One day the problem just vanished - maybe the traffic routing got fixed.
Wonder if there is some traffic routing issue to the BBC content servers. I gather even different quality streams can come from different parts of the network.

After setting up Unotelly to see if bbciplayer would work, I'm fighting to getting rid of it. It has hijacked my browser and redirects me to Unotelly instead of the bbc Then tells me 8 days is up.
I checked out the uninstalll options and that's when the trouble started. You're instructed to remove "obtain an ip address automatically" from TCPIP properties which I did. But then it wanted an IP address and I had no idea what that was, so I put the same number in as was the DNS server. Then a subnet mask 255, 255, 255, 0.
The compute then tried to diagnose something but failed. Now I find it won't work on the Internet! That'll teach me for trying out that Unotelly virus !!
The computer is an Acer laptop and connects by wifi. I ran up ipconfig but it reports the settings I put in that broke it. It's fairly new and whatever settings it had were those out of the box.
Any idea how I find it's right IP address and subnet mask?
While I am posting on here - I previously mentioned (while other people were having issues with iplayer on orcon global mode) that the get_iplayer tool that allows you to download programs from bbc iplayer had stopped working like it used to. I am on VF and dns4me. It used to allow quite good quality video to be downloaded as mp4 files - but just recently (around the time people started reporting issues with iplayer on orcon) the get_iplayer script started failing on the various higher quality streams and falling down to the lowest possible video resolution. I noticed at the weekend its started working properly again on the better quality streams. I wonder if some BBC iplayer network configuration may have fixed the issue.
Has the orcon global mode/iplayer issue been fixed for orcon users?

Those are the instructions I followed that resulted in my laptop losing the internet, but Oldmanakbar advice to reset both to automatic did work. Thanks !!! I installed the downloader but haven't used it yet. I'm on Orcon and get now get bbc and itv. But bbc can still report there is a problem, try again. But so far try again has worked.
yes Hulu is down as of today, netflix and amazon prime are working for me, i hope it is an issue that can be fixed, makes me a little worried they pick my IP as not being in the US.
