It looks like Google have changed their SMS vendor or the way they send out their notifications, possibly bypassing the existing short-code process they had before. We've tested this on our side and it's not working for some numbers. 

A quick Google search found this which may have something to do with it - https://support.google.com/calendar/answer/45351?hl=en 
The timing seems about right.

Working fine for me. Last one 23/7 9.14am
I have noticed it is often evening ones I do not get. 
My number is an 029 dumped by Telstra to Voda then moved to 2deg.
