No, this won't speed up ADSL, but it will give a *big* speed improvement over the 73xxs for your local wireless network between machines if it's your main wireless AP. If you do any kind of local sharing - files, media, whatever - it's a huge difference.
As that is nothing to do with the internet connection, buy your own hardware that supports the higher speeds if you want it.
Would have to be a VOIP router if the OP wished to use VOIP for voice.

Thats fine, keep their internet router, which is fine for the ASDL speeds and add your own accesspoint with AC for your lan transfers which are nothing to do with the internet.

LesC: When I found that 2degrees offered both modems I phoned to ask which one I would get. When the CSR offered the older model I declined to sign up. That's when she offered the 7490.
