DarrenJ:

im just in the process of upgrading from 30/10 to 100/20.  Orcon told me that there is no new contract to sign, so I went ahead. They said it's just a speed change, and everything else stays the same with the current plan (voice, etc)

but they are sending me a new modem for $9.95 as I'm still on the old black genius unit.

Argh, This is the reason why I try and avoid speaking to their service desk, the amount of misinformation they provide causes such frustration and is bad for their business.

I envy you getting the chance to speak with someone who sounded helpful.

Anyone know how to get a hold of the retention team?

You will need a new modem if you go above the 100/20 speed is my understanding, it uses new technology that current modems do not use or something. So switching between speeds under 100/20 should be on the fly and not require anything, modem change gets treated as a new account. Phone the fibre number and confirm 0800 13 33 33, make sure you say that you want the free month and free postage if they say you have to sign a new contract, otherwise ask them to put you through to retention team, they should do it no problems, just sucks that you have to chase it yourself.

honestly sounds like this is a case where it is actually easier to switch ISPs AND will save you money.
