Hi,
is there a way to enable fibre customers to be able to upgrade their plan online? I don't really want to phone the call center..
Thanks,
DT

I took the absence of a response as a no, so I phoned to upgrade my plan.. surprisingly was all going well until I was asked to be put on hold.. yeah no problem.. when the lovely lady came back she explained that I would need to re sign for another 12 months to upgrade my plan? whaaat? since when do account changes require you to re sign?
Same here but guess they have to make a commitment to Chorus.

Chorus don't have contracts on fibre (yet). It's all Orcon.
do you get a free month?

Change ISP to one with the speed you want and no contract then?
Yep, the promotion 2degrees is running at the moment is looking pretty good from this ship..
What frustrates me even more is that it clearly states on the Orcon help website that you wont have to enter into a new contract for plan changes unless you're changing technologies, i.e going from ADSL to Fibre..
According the to call center that is incorrect and it will not be honored.. *facepalm*

No mention of it.. but I needed to be transferred to sales to make the change so maybe they would have mentioned it then.
Callplus/Orcon/Slingshot et al are bloody awful at trussing you up to contracts whenever you want anything changing. It is purely their way of commiting you for a period.
We use Callplus at work -and while they are a whole heap easier/better to deal with than Vodafone ever were, they always use that 'new contract' thing to tie you up. I read the small print last time and you really are committed to them - cancelling means you have to keep paying them.
I like Bigpipe's approach (and that is why I am now using them at home). No contract - free to leave any time. But if they give me a good service why would I leave?
Easy way to keep a customer? - just look after them and give them good service/product.

Did you sign a new contract or are you still thinking about this?
If you did sign, then if you get your finger out quickly you could probably get out of that contract and change ISPs - not sure if you want to do that but you do appear to have a cooling down period with contracts like this:

2degrees still comes locked in with a 24 month contract (which IMHO is ludicrously long), and the price after 12 months is really really high. the average price for the 24 months is $77
Bigpipe doing first two months free if you already have UFB installed (so average price of only $72/m over 24 months), and still with no contract.
2D comes with 6 months NEON, Bigpipe comes with 6 months Lightbox.
Lightbox >>>>>> NEON

I didn't want to be locked into a contract again so did not go ahead with the change, I've had issues with Orcon in the past where I was only getting 30mb for the first 6 months of my 100mb plan, in case I had the same sort of headache going from 100 > 200 I really didn't want them to have me by my balls again.
im just in the process of upgrading from 30/10 to 100/20. Orcon told me that there is no new contract to sign, so I went ahead. They said it's just a speed change, and everything else stays the same with the current plan (voice, etc)
but they are sending me a new modem for $9.95 as I'm still on the old black genius unit.

$9.95 per month, or as a one-off?
Orcon tend to rent their modems out, and do 'free rental' in exchange for a contract. so if you've signed up without a contract might pay to check you aren't going to get stung for monthly modem rental.

It was a one off charge as far as I'm aware, and he mentioned it was to cover postage.

You need to ask to be treated like a new customer instead of being punished for being an existing customer. You should get the same benefits i.e. free month and free postage of the modem. If not ask to speak to the retention team and tell them you will change providers.
