What's going on with the Orcon connectivity, over the 2-3 weeks every few days from 1-2am onwards at night I have to reset my router over and over because it loses connection. Once it resets it will work for anywhere between 5 minutes upto 30 or so then lose connection again. During the day, and *most* nights this doesn't happen at all. Should I not be using orcon's dns servers ?

@Rambaldi this isn't "Orcon" - this will be your line. I bet you've got a line fault.

1) Try via Ethernet to ensure the fault isn't just Wireless congestion.
2) Check your modem sync rate - does this drop?
3) Log a fault with Orcon and invest in a master filter.

Nice idea but incorrect. A line fault doesn't happen only at night and only every few days. Everything except my iPad is connected via Ethernet and I've been with Orcon for years.

I agree I have same problem. Every night recently I get up in morning and no Internet. It seems to happen between 1am and 5am when I get up. It's really annoying as my phones all switch over to mobile data and I am paying for data usage on several phones when I should be using wifi.

I am on Fibre.

What I need is a way to detect and alert when router is down but short of leaving a computer running 24x7 pinging somewhere and then somehow alerting me. Thought about IfTTT on my phone but that is no good because I have no idea how to ensure the ping goes out via the router and not via the mobile data which kicks in when wifi-router circuit is not available.

Something to thin k about. maybe someone else has already come up with a monitoring system

Yeah I should have mentioned in on Fibre too. I'm my cell I disable mobile data in the settings of my cell when at home, only turn it on when out. Might not help if you have multiple phones though.

I am guessing that no one is working on the fibre circuits at this time of night so its more likely something happening back at Orcon. Maybe they do testing at 1 am which disrupts the router. It always come up ok after reboot of router. Pity they dont build something into the router that calls home and if no reply it resets itself.

Yes!  I've been having this "wake up and no Internet" problem for 3 or 4 weeks now.  Every few days it happens.  Simple soft reboot of Router fixes it.

I'm on VDSL in Auckland.

Please use your notification system to warn of this sort of maintenance Orcon.
