As explained though, PTM compared to ATM is bit of a boost. Personally i would love to see Adsl over PTM offered on chorus connections as a good midway, Although there is very reasonable arguable points behind why ATM is good for longer
Every EUBA connection supports ADSL2+ on VLAN10 using VCI/VPI of 0/110 (same as VDSL2) to avoid the PPPoA translation, but most RSP's don't offer this as an option.
I understood the encapsulation at the modem level to still be ATM though? News to me if not.
I am currently using PPPoE over VLAN10 0/110 on my connection. My isp also allows DHCP without PPPoE but that is rather unreliable in my experience (often when under-load the routing on the downstream will just stop till a new IP is negotiated after some delay)
Allows and offers are obviously two very different things unfortunately.
Ahh maybe it's not PTM, I might have mistakenly thought it was.
0/110 traffic is delivered on a different VLAN (0/100 is CVID + 1600), so needs the RSP to have configured this in their handover.
