Apologies for the thread hijack, but can you please clarify this for me, please? Are you saying BP customers using an unblocking service really require a static IP address?

Or, if you don't do that, you need to add DNS servers and static routes in the router?

It's just that we're in this boat - BigPipe customers using Getflix; we don't seem to have any problems with Getflix beyond the standard Netflix problems, but are there advantages in our situation to have a static IP address? We have the Getflix DNS servers in the router, but no longer the static routes as provided on the Getflix site.

Thanks!

The problem is if you're on a CGNAT connection you're sharing your IP with other people on their network - somebody on this endpoint IP address could well be using Getflix also and you can't run 2 or more Getflix accounts on the same IP.

Having a Static IP means you're able to use any unblocking service as this is "your" IP and you're the only one using it. You'll find if you're on CGNAT you'll likely be using the Getflix account of the first person that registered with that IP - the control panel shouldn't let you register an IP address twice so if that is you then you've got no need for a Static IP.

Works in your favour too, just put the DNS in and hope that whoever you are sharing the IP with at that time doesnt do something stupid like set it to the UK zone for things

so i get cold called by slingshot offering me a 30/10 ufb deal for about $90 a month..wtf is with that deal? i see people are getting offered 100/20 for $59?

as a SS customer for 10+ years id have thought theyd offer a better deal than that. :(

anyone recomend a 100/20 unlimited (or 150gb) plan thats a better deal?

Hiya,

It's pretty normal for a few different offers to be in circulation for the same product and for some of those to be for new/recontracting customers only. Sorry we couldn't come up with something better for you on the call. It's not intended to be insulting, It's just marketing. If you want me to have a look and see if there is something else we can offer just flick through your account details and i'll come back to you.

Cheers

floydie: So that costs $20 a month more? Jesus this is supposed to be saving me money

No. $20 / month is with NOW. Bigpipe is a one-off fixed charge when you sign up.

Recently signed up with NOWNZ too...its been about 20days now. Annoyed.
That $20/pm for a static ip annoyed me too, kinda feeling robbed.

Apparently ports(public) aren't blocked...they are just not accessible outside of their network...to me that sounds blocked.  ANYWAY.... the combat to that issue was to charge another $20pm for a static ip which would(did) solve that.

ISP's should somehow offer a trial period...without one signing a goddam 24month contract. Anyway, looking for another isp

Pretty much all other ISPs charge a monthly charge - from around $10 per month to $20(wow!).

That really sucks :-(

Bigpipe at a one-off $45 is a great deal.

Also like the no fixed term contract - if they dont perform you can walk.

So far (a bit over a year) they have been great!

If they won't let you out for free, start quoting the Consumer Guarantees Act. You could very reasonably argue that their internet connection is not fit for purpose as it is incapable of doing things that one would reasonably expect an internet connection to do.

IANAL, etc etc :)
