1.75%, so not a huge amount, its the principal for me.

Thanks. If I go for the 2 year plan ($59 1st year, $95 2nd year) that's a $32.34 extra cost I'll need to factor in.

i really really really hate it when companies do this.  The easiest way to pay anything these days are with credit cards.  Charging a fee for this as a customer really pisses me off.

Sure at the end of the day its only a couple of bucks, but its the principal.   No other ISP I know of charges a CC fee (I'm sure they might be some, please speak out if they do)

2degrees is committed to providing customers great value but due to ongoing third party banking and transactional fees we will be introducing a Card Payment Fee for all Credit and Debit card payments made against your 2degrees Broadband bill from 8 March 2017.

I always pay these bills via Internet banking. I pay no bank fees for this...and the companies concerned don't charge me for it. Across the lot of them I probably save $5 / month.

My $5.

timmmay: Storm in a teacup. It costs them more to accept credit cards, so they charge more.

So then why do certain companies explicitly charge for it on top of the purchase price while other don't & you only pay the purchase price?

timmmay: Seems totally fair to me.

Doesn't seem fair to me. That's why we are having this discussion

True - But at least if you are shopping in person you can pay using EFTPOS and not pay the credit card charge.

Where a company has most of its business via credit card transactions (online shopping, rolling monthly charges) it would 'appear' better if they didnt make a distinction between credit card payments and 'other' methods.

While they obviously do incur 1.?% transaction fee it does rather rub people up the wrong way by making them look like they are being victimised.

I wonder what percentage of payments 2 degrees processes are actually credit cards?

I happily order from PB Tech but pay by Internet banking....so no fees.

PB Tech have always passed on the fee the credit card company charges them. When I worked for VISA in Canada merchants then weren't allowed to do this......(so some merchants just refused to take VISA at all, as happened with Sydney Taxis prior to the 2000 Olympics when VISA tried to extort higher fees from them - F.O. VISA was the taxi response) but in NZ that's not been the case.

Credit Card == instant transfer, you can get the item sent out the same day you order.

POLI - there is no way in hell I will hand over my banking details to a 3rd party.  this system is crazy IMO and should be banned.

Internet Banking == often takes 1 working day for the money to go through so no same day shipping.

credit card has so much benefits as a customer, it makes shopping easier and more likely to buy something.  If can just click "buy now" and thats it, ill likely buy something, if I have to buy now, log in to my bank, copy some account details etc, that takes a few minutes, I'm likely not to bother.  Sure this doesnt effect 2degrees, but does effect PBTech for me.

I tend to use my CC for everything these days, and if people charge extra, I tend to go elsewhere.

Me too. I had a $1500 order pending when C1 Shopping Mall went under, because I'd paid by credit card I got all of my money back - other people who'd paid by internet banking were unsecured creditors they were way down the list to get back some money, I don't think they ended up getting anything back. Since that experience I pay by CC for almost everything and avoid companies to that add an extra fee (if possible).

It used to be the case that a vendor could not charge a different price for credit card transactions vs other transactions. Not sure whether it was general law or conditions that credit card companies imposed. That stopped a few years back and now you can on-charge the transaction fee. Most businesses with online transactions just seem to wear the costs. Others charge more.

I just factor the CC cost in when comparing prices. No way I would ever use poli and internet banking isnt available on the occasions that they have sales. Having a drama getting price 3 loaded against my login for the website with PB so am going in most often to get things rather than ordering anyway.

There are other ways companies differentiate payments, computer lounge for example only gives whatever their points are called to payments other than credit/debit.

PB Tech don't charge extra for debit cards since they're not incurring the same fees as a credit card.

I am gravely disappointed to see 2degrees follow the steps of the lesser companies, to become merely like all others.

Credit card surcharges have been legal since 2009 after a 3 year Commerce Commission investigation and court action against both Visa and MasterCard which resulted in a settlement.

One can easily argue this action in both NZ and in Australia by the ACCC has sensationally backfired, resulting in even higher costs to consumers as both companies simply responded to threats to regulate interchange rates by simply introducing new higher tier premium cards (such as Platinum) which incur higher interchange rates than a regular or gold card that were the norm at the time.
