VOIP is going to replace phone calling.

VoIP / IMS isn't going to fully replace circuit switched calling any time soon in the mobile space.

Prplppleater: The current system outages are due to 2degrees merging all of their current databases and CRM systems into their new system, Stuart Sheriff the CEO told staff on Wednesday the system was delayed a few days due to further testing required as a new prepay data plan that was going to rock NZ telcos needed to be added for its release on a couple of weeks.

This certainly sounds like an internal comment which should not be disclosed to the public untill actuall revealed.

If this is true then someone doesn't know what an NDA is or how it works....

It shouldn't be an issue given that it is completely untrue.

The title on this thread should have had a question mark (?) after it to point out that it is not a statement of fact but a speculation or, at best, a musing.

I wish I'd never clicked on this topic. yell

Let me rephrase - with the advent of bigger data allowances, voice-over-data services (Skype, Hangouts, Whatsapp, Facebook) are going to supplement and increasingly supplant circuit switched calling :)

I believe the telco term is "over the top" (OTT) services.

I really really hope that you have not shot yourself in the foot. If you heard this from a family member or friend lets hope it doesnt come back to them. We are all reasonable mature people here, We dont want people breaking their contracts and NDA's. It wont earn anyone brownie points. Just lose them their job.

Cheers

I wonder if they will offer unlimited data for those who are also on 2degrees broadband ?

Ties into their proposed post-paid plan target?

Even if all they did was offer to piggyback their installed 2D broadband customers (like VF/BT etc do in England) they would shake the current market nicely 👍

maybe these 'big plans' to shake up the industry refer to giving everybody unlimited free txt and mins

They've just turned that on to salvage something out of the huge systems screw up they are currently having

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11807806

My bet is that, once the system outages are fixed, they will announce something like

"Because we had such a great response to giving free mins and txt to everyone, we're going to make that permanent! As long as you buy some sort of data pack every month, then all your calling and minutes are free!"
