Well, we have a little tidying up to do for resiliency towards the service that the handset app talks to, but I spent a lot of time last week getting it ready. Like any brand new service, time will tell: but my logs look clean so I'm pretty happy.

perfect for me. I stream youtube or netflix on my phone every day on my bus ride to/from work for about 30minutes.

It currently uses up around 20GB/data each month doing just that (that is where the vast majority of my data spend goes - rest of the time I'm home or work, where I have wifi, or just doing basic browsing which uses very little data.)

with this, I could pay $1 each way (around $45/month) and that would effectively get me 20GB of data! incredible.

It's worth buying a 2D SIM just for this plan and keeping it in a 'spare' phone I will use just for streaming.

That's exactly the kind of thing we had in mind. Do it.

Or just buy youtube red and save videos for offline viewing and minimal data use. Netflix allows this also..

ETA: if you have a bach or something you want to go for a weekend, this works out great. $12 for 2 days unlimited mobile data and stream in the evenings without worrying about usage

The bach idea is great..... only if you have good coverage.

Can definitely see a use for this when off on a weekend away (or longer) and wanting to stream... perfect complement to SkinnyBB and 2D rollover data.

I'd struggle to be that organised after finishing all the stuff I *have* to do every night. But if you are, more power to you. It's all about giving people new options. So if one morning it turns out you're not... feel free to give this a go.

Digging a little deeper... would "AppleTV Direct" peer to peer break the t&c's?

I'm able to use this for NFlix on my Mobile Home TV via a late model AppleTV3, so just keen to see if Data Clock would work the same and if moving the [same] image from my phone to a bigger screen is a T&C issue. (And if so, why would using a bigger screen make any impact on the network use?)

I'm going to Christchurch this coming Monday.

I'd like to use my free 24 hours (!) to stream music while I drive to the airport.

When I'm in Christchurch, I'll need to tether my laptop to the phone to get some work done.

Is there a way to "stop the clock" for this, or will I feel the wrath of being in breach of the T&Cs?

There's no way to stop the clock, no. As far as the wrath of the Ts & Cs goes, I'm afraid I can only refer you to the Ts & Cs themselves.

I don't think you can tether either.

I'll try it and tell you all what happens. I've got loads of carryover & zone data still so if I get "charged for my excessive usage" it would fall within my carryover balance anyway. I can call support if the anti tethering police shut down my connection.

That would be interesting, you'll used to much data, here's a bill for $10000 or more.

So 24 hours will hopefully only cost you $6, but at their discretion they may charge you hundreds or even thousands on top of that. Kinda takes the fun out of it.

Although, I don't see how they can bill you for that when it is for prepaid customers. Isn't the whole point of prepaid that no matter what you do you can't spend more than your current balance, and therefore can't get into arrears?

Oh man, there goes Zenbu wifi. So many times I have been in a motel for a day or two and they only offer godawful zenbu wifi, charged at $10 a GB. Now I can pay $6 and get unlimited data for an entire day! Yes. DIAF Zenbu. You were well priced a decade ago.

Sadly I'm on account and thus can't use this. Please allow on account usage!

I'm posting this from Firefox on Linux, tethered via Wifi to my phone, which is on the free initial 24 hours. My NextCloud has synced. So working so far.
