Anyone able to investigate what the pricing looks like? Because that's conceptually pretty cool.

Pricing as detailed within the app:

5 minutes: $0.50
10 minutes: $0.60
30 minutes: $1.00
1 hour: $1.50
3 hours: $2.00
12 hours: $4.00
24 hours: $6.00

I'm sure this was explained in the other thread, but how are they making sure you're not tethering? And How do they make sure this isn't just going in a USB Dongle?

The Google Play Store says the app needs access to:

Device & app history: Allows the app to view one or more of: information about activity on the device, which apps are running, browsing history and bookmarks
Wi-Fi connection information: Allows the app to view information about Wi-Fi networking, such as whether Wi-Fi is enabled and names of connected Wi-Fi devices

which I guess would be enough to see if wifi tethering was on and/or if you had a tethering app running.

Might be viable if you have a whole lot of stuff queued up to down/upload as soon as you hit the go button. Or for doing a scheduled facebook live/whatever broadcast.

wireless tethering seems to work ok on the prepaid side of things with an android device.

Interesting concept ... I could see it being handy when away from home and wanting to use your device to watch or listen to streaming services
I was away last weekend and used around 1GB of my allowance watching YouTube ..

That would be interesting, you'll used to much data, here's a bill for $10000 or more.

Edit: the bit about being charged is in the fair use policy. It's under f in that one.

Would simply casting your phone to the TV to watch Netflix for example be considered mobile tethering?

The TV or Chromecast needs to be on the same wifi as the phone so probably won't work. May have some luck with a mirracast device since they apparently can go direct without a wifi ap to connect to but the app may see that as an active wifi connection.

That appears only to be a requirement for the app to be able to load the unlimited session to the mobile number/sim card.

great idea (assuming it works)

perfect for me. I stream youtube or netflix on my phone every day on my bus ride to/from work for about 30minutes.

It currently uses up around 20GB/data each month doing just that (that is where the vast majority of my data spend goes - rest of the time I'm home or work, where I have wifi, or just doing basic browsing which uses very little data.)

with this, I could pay $1 each way (around $45/month) and that would effectively get me 20GB of data! incredible.

It's worth buying a 2D SIM just for this plan and keeping it in a 'spare' phone I will use just for streaming. Just hope the network is good enough to handle it.

ETA: if you have a bach or something you want to go for a weekend, this works out great. $12 for 2 days unlimited mobile data and stream in the evenings without worrying about usage
