OK, looking at your address, I think you could get closer to 7Mbps once internal wiring is sorted. Also positive for 4G RBI if you want a bit more speed - however have not got SureSignal working on this yet. I'll reply to your PM with a few more details later.

Looks like Fraser may have you sorted here.

Personally 25K for the fibre isn't a bad offer, normally chorus respond with double that!

Wow, really? I assumed it was just a 'go away' price.

Internet speed over the last couple of days has been 0.15Mbs down and 0.4Mbs up and without consistent cell reception that makes things pretty difficult. It would be great if the suresignal played nice with wireless broadband

The 25k needs to be weighed up against how long you intend to stay
If you will be there for the next 10 years then that's 2.5k a year for significantly better access. Still a lot, but once you weigh up the other options it's not terrible.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

There are overseas studies that say having fibre install will increase the value of a house.

Wonder if this is true here?

in terms of where my wallet goes outside of family homes, I'm probably the most stuckup about the connectivity options.

Back a few years ago when i was flatting and UFB really wasn't rolled out much (talking like Year 1 or so) one of my conditionals were based around close on the 17a mark at minimum from a average distance perspective.

but i'd tend to agree, better connectivity options drives sales a lot more. - Even real estates here have caught on, now showing if VDSL and Fibre is available.

to smaller percentage of the population it would but i doubt it would add much

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Well we just moved here and the intention is to stay long term. 25k is a whole lot of money and no doubt if I did shell out for it then 6 months later some type of internet would then become available.

Out of interest, wold the 25k be just for my address? Or would that liven a section of the already installed fibre on the road so others could get on too? If so then maybe I could gang around and get other people on board

Just a follow up on where things have ended.

Coffeebaron came and installed a master filter. Had no appreciable effect but its nice to know I've had everything done on my end and can highly recommend him if you are in the market for such work.

Chorus came and checked the terminations and found that the neighbours had a rusty connection and fixed it. No change for me.

So at the end of the day I have ~2.5Mb/s ADSL and a Vodafone SureSignal for mobile reception. And that about all I can do unless a 4G aerial RBI system can be made to play nicely with a SureSignal, or Vodafone increases coverage in my area so that I no longer need the Suresignal and I can use a standard 4G system. Or I come into $25k to spend on fibre.

Thanks very much for all the help and info I've received,

Kind regards,

Michael
