I'm getting the same in Auckland as well been happening for about a week. Only noticing it with usenet d/loads, been as low as 600k. Doing a speed test at the same time I'm getting 400mbps .

Have confirmed same results with a VM which rules out the switch as the switch only carries traffic outside of the ESXi box. Same Issue.

Slow speeds in New Plymouth as well. Disappointing 2 Degrees are not even acknowledging there's obviously an issue.

Have confirmed getting 30KB/s from NZ mirror downloading debian and ubuntu packages.

Sourceforge also seems to be capped at 30KB/s.

Still 1.8-2MB/s on Usenet.

Again. Connecting a VPN allows me to access my full speed again.

Signed up to another Usenet host and tried both US and EU servers..

US server was the same <1.2 Mbps

EU server i was getting 12Mbps

Wow thats interesting info!

My usenet provider is US based and I only get 1.8-2MB/s where previously it would max my connection out (Changing the number of connections from 10 to 100 has no effect, I usually use a default of 30) but connecting the VPN, even to a US server and I get around 10MB/s

Heres an example of a file I am having issues with, latest usenet client that I use.

Downloading with no VPN 30KB/s (Once speed fluctuations have settled down)

Got full ~12MB/s connected to Australia and 7MB/s connected to USA.

It's not easy for me to get the URL's of the files from my linux machines as they were updating via a GUI but I could do it through the terminal and get a download link...

Seems to be the same here, can't say I've noticed anything other than the odd 30KB/s download.

Im having similar problems as well. At first I just got timeout errors whenever I tried to download the above file - just using Firefox built in downloader. Then I refreshed some pages on the Flick Electric website, as it is hosted on Amazon AWS (their billing and usage info pages definitely are, which have always been slow to load for me) After that, I tried the Firefox download again. It worked but was capped at 30K speed.

Although Youtube works properly for me. Also im using an Edge Router Lite, instead of the fritzbox as my router. And before anyone asks, yes I was using Ethernet, not Wifi.

2 Degrees 100/20 Fibre in Tauranga.

The reason I tested was I notice I keep occasionally getting 'potato vision' (blurry 360p video) when accessing video in the US in the last week/10days.

somethings not right here...

That Firefox S3 bucket is slow to download from on 2degrees 100Mbps fiber, that I know is good.

However Firefox nightlies from their servers are fast

So I created a couple of new S3 buckets in US West (Oregon) and Sydney to test. Now removed sorry as results are in.

Oregon S3 (54Mbps and rising)

Sydney S3 (68Mbps and rising)

UPDATE - Virginia S3 - Very slow around 350kbps

Conclusion

Sometimes downloads are fast. Sometimes downloads are slow. Something is screwy with routing to the US east coast. It could be server capacity, bandwidth, congestion, routing, any number of things. Sometimes the ISP can mitigate, often not.

I ask because that's where the slow Firefox update bucket is, and what you call Firefox nightly is actually served by locsl Akamai CDN nodes in NZ. I'd blame Bad routing in the US when transiting to the east coast, except there must be local YouTube servers here too.
