If you disable it, can you still leave a greeting to advise callers of your email address?

I would happily send an email rather than leaving a voicemail message, however I don't use SMS because I have difficulty typing text on a phone.

I have always regarded V M as a fiddle de de for the cell provider. They win payment from an unsuccessful call and more money again when the V M is accessed by the user. I consider busy and no answer as more truthful and helpful. My location in a sporadic cell reception area emphasizes the frustration and futility of by V M.

In a more developed country with realistic cost unlimited coverage it could be better to have it maybe.

You can with Skinny. There are three options.

Normal voicemail
Recorded message but no ability to leave a message
Rings for a set period then hangs up on the caller

I choose #3

What I've done with my OH's 2D number is to set up a free VOIP number and use this as the 2D phone's VM number. In the VOIP service, I divert all calls to voicemail, which are then saved as a recording and emailed to OH's phone.

Instead of a discrete VM charge from 2d, the diverted call is charged to standard minutes, which we always have lots of.

Yup, disabled it on Skinny. I have a message to say I can't answer the phone and to either try again later or send me a text and I'll get back to them.

Only thing holding me back is that the kids (they're not young kids) wouldn't be able to leave me a message if they couldn't get hold of me. They usually send an SMS anyway so probably not an issue. They can always try again like everyone else!

Would be grateful to see the steps for disabling on 2D. Have looked on their website and can't see anything relevant - nor on my phone.

Hi, customers can turn off Voicemail by dialling 202 and selecting option 3, option 8.

Here's some Voicemail FAQs and the Voicemail menu. Hope that helps.

I choose #3

I picked option 2 - I tell them they cant leave a message - but either txt me or email me (I give my email address).

Got sick of people listening to my old message and waiting until they could record a message - then they seemed to usually hang up. Result was that I kept having to pay 20c to retrieve a blank VM.

I can neither confirm nor deny that I may or may not be receiving email VM from my mobile provider, nor can I confirm who that provider may or may not be. It is known that you can divert calls from your mobile to a VoIP provider e.g. 2talk to then receive VM via email, however I can neither confirm nor deny that this may or may not be the method that I am receiving these. What I can confirm though is if you asked this question to any current mobile provider, they will confirm that VM to email is currently NOT a feature they offer. :)

Looks like I'm behind the 8-ball - this is well trodden territory!

@2degreescare your voicemail options looks like pressing 3 then 8 will "turn/off voicemail". Does that mean something other than enabling/disabling VM?

The biggest problem is that when you have no voicemail, the tone people get when you reject is a busy tone, not a "your call was rejected" message or similar. So people who are not good with phone etiquette will call straight back even when it isn't urgent.
