Not specifically a 2d topic but couldn't think of a better place (mods feel free to step in...)

Have just disabled voicemail on my mobile account, I'll probably miss out on a bit of stuff, but >95% of my voicemail messages are from people who have my number and can just as easily leave SMS or call back.

Anyone else disabled voicemail? Have I made a major miscalculation?!

Yep I have. I think I've failed to answer maybe 1 call in the last 12 months. Works for me.

Yes OCCF set to N / OFF on my MSISDN so 40 seconds of paging and inbound call dropped and not passed to the Vodafone Voicemail platform

What about setting QAZWSX to EDC and then you can turn on  so that the RFVTGB stops calls going to VM

Hey @chevrolux, can you please stop posting passwords to my EDC accounts all over the place? Sheesh!

My wife has. Previously, the voicemail said not to leave a message, send SMS instead, people still left a vm.

I have never set it up on any of my work phones. As long as the caller hasn't blocked their ID, I can retrieve their number from the missed call list and ring them as soon as I am able to.

I'll get myself back on topic. I have been thinking about disabling VM on 2Degrees also. Only thing holding me back is that the kids (they're not young kids) wouldn't be able to leave me a message if they couldn't get hold of me. They usually send an SMS anyway so probably not an issue. They can always try again like everyone else!

I haven't disabled it, but I've lengthened the "delay" to 30 seconds. Most people tend to hang up before then.

My cell number used to be on my business card.

As the business grew, we got a couple of call centre guys to answer the phones - but customers kept calling the boss thinking they would get a fast resolution. Problem is I spend most of my time up a hill or out of cellphone coverage.

So they get grumpy that they cant get their problem sorted where as 99% of the time its an accounts query and there is someone happy to answer their call in the office, who is otherwise just playing minesweeper. Where as I am actually out doing productive work which shouldnt involve accounts queries.

- Need a new email box, call the office
- Need to check your balance, call the office
- Need to change your email address we send invoices to, call the office.

So I had to disable voicemail since I dont have time to listen to the messages and its usually too late at night to call anyone back. But I did it in a different way - vodafone couldnt disable voicemail on my landline-on-cell number, only the 021 number. So I had to re-record the message to say "Hi you have reched ray...please call the office..." then instead of letting it beep, i repeated my greeting three times so the caller hangs up before they get to the beep.

I haven't had voicemail on my cellphone for more than a decade I guess.  A few times people have been surprised that they couldn't leave me a message. (The phone will simply ring and ring until it drops)

People have other means of getting in touch of me, mobile calls for me tend to be when people absolutely must have my attention at that time.  (Otherwise it's done through email)

Problem is the number of companies with crap or no CRM systems so when you call back noone has any idea why anyone would have called you.

Back in the dark old days when it was bellsouth they had some BS reason for not disabling voice mail and forced you to have it so I just recorded the telecom man telling you that the phone was off or outside the coverage area as the outgoing message for as long as it would let me. Some people got real p'd when they kept calling and were charged for all those calls. Guess that was what that dodgey at the time telco was hoping for.

Nowdays I figure I can call back any call that I miss, If they block the number, truecaller will auto reject it so I dont even get bothered with a missed call from withheld number in the log. Anyone that can call can SMS or email.

I had disabled voicemail fro a few years, but put it back on after a bout of illness. I missed getting hospital appointments as they could not leave a  message from their office phones.

Yep, since forever. It's such an awkward clunky system. I can see that they rang from the caller ID. If it's important, they'll call back or, better yet, email me so I can reply at my leisure so as not to interrupt the task at hand.

Yep!

Its the first thing I do,along with having all marketing messages disabled.

I simply answer the phone if someone calls, or if that's not possible (very rare), I call them back when I can. The call records tell me who called, and if the number doesn't show, they'll get back to me!

Easy - and never had a problem!
