No plans for me, I'm too much of a low user. But nice to see the costs are coming down to match Australia.
I paid $40 for 7G (plus a 1 off 7G joining bonus) when in Aussie last month with a mainstream carrier (Optus)

I'm hoping spark does something the same, i just had to up my plan for more data but paying over $100 for less data than what 2degrees now offers for $55.

Currently have 9.5gigs shared between my phone and ipad (I stream a lot of music).

Press release:

2degrees is again ramping up competition in the mobile market with the launch of a ground breaking 10GB for $55 mobile phone plan.

According to the Commerce Commission’s latest Telecommunications Monitoring Report, the average growth rate of mobile data use from 2009/10 to 2015/16 has been 79%.

Chief Marketing Officer Roy Ong says everyone’s good at talking about how customers are increasingly data hungry, but not so good at translating that need into real value options for customers.

“So instead of talking about data use we are enabling it with our new pay monthly plans which offer market leading value.”

“This is on the back of New Zealand’s first Unlimited Mobile phone data plan that we introduced earlier in the year, and other innovative options such as the time based data purchase app Data Clock,” says Ong.

On top of the new 10GB for $55 plan 2degrees has created a 15GB for $70 plan, so again more data for less, and simplified the rest of its plan line-up.

Ong is realistic that the rest of the market will likely follow 2degrees and have a similar offering available within a short period.

“We’re just pleased to be able to continue to challenge the status quo and offer new value for Kiwis.”

All of 2degrees pay monthly plans are open term, include carry over data - something else 2degrees introduced to the market - and have NZ and Australian calling to standard landlines/mobiles built in to their minute allocations.

It would be safe to assume that both Spark and Vodafone will move their plans as well, remembering when 2D launched that unlimited plan Spark had something out within 24 hours

Not really. Spark announced their reaction to the 2degrees plan within 24 hours. It took them over a month to actually launch it.

As a higher volume user I think the value here is quite impressive. It's a shame 2degrees don't have a decent roaming package as this is something that the higher end of the market is likely to want.

There are quite good $160-$20/month plans which are great for kids - but which has a data plan that just stops when used up rather than then charging the moon?

I can remember my son's... it hit it's limit then started charging my credit card $20 about every 5 minutes as he watched some *(&*%% youtube video! Switched is data off... but I'd like them to have a chunk of data and let them manage it through the month.

Wow. Just wow. Really feeling valued at the lower end of the market here. Same plan I'm on currently now costs more (admittedly 5 cents but it's still more) without a single change. I was expecting a small bump in data, maybe to 1.5 gb on the base plan. The only reason we've stayed on 2D so long was we have a fibre with them (with the $10 discount) and both the wife and I have a few gigs banked each. This really pisses me off. That $10 discount is just not worth it now.

Assuming you were on the $39.95 plan, I'm pretty sure it's still $39.95. They're just calling it $40 because nice round numbers. The other new ones really are $55 and $70, IIRC.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

Anything similar coming to the business plans? We're on the Business Select $85.83, so $98 a month for 7GB of data. Bit rough in comparison!

On a grand fathered $29.95 plan. The last upgrade it got was about 4 years ago? give or take to 1g data. The 'new' $30 plan is identical. Considering what you can get on Skinny/Skinny Direct for the same or less I don't know why I stick around. Skinny have been fantastic for my tablet and the coverage is just that much better at home and work.

@LivingSkinny you guys are savage...

Amazing news! The $50 Combo now comes with a whopping 10GB of NZ data! When your Combo next renews you'll get 10GB (up from 6GB). Plus, you don't have to wait - we've just popped 4GB of data at no extra charge onto your Combo, valid for 30 days. Thanks for choosing Skinny Direct!

We should start billing Skinny for coming up with all of their ideas for them.

Moved from the previous 5Gb plan to the 10Gb and extra data was added within 5 minutes. More for less!

How do you actually go about changing plans with 2degrees? Website is confusing.
