OP says he's a heavy user and Voyager has a fair use policy which could cause him problems. I'd personally go 2degrees with the $10 per month static IP address option if a phone line is a requirement, otherwise Bigpipe with the one off static IP address fee.

I use approx 1TB a month and never had any issues regarding it from Voyager - altho, I am on VDSL.

I don't know if Slingshot do static IP, but their IP addresses are pretty sticky. I've had the same IP address for almost a year and they don't do CG-NAT.

My Orcon IPv4 address follows me too and it really peeves me off sometimes haha.
I found unplugging the ONT and Router for the night gives you a new one but it isnt like the good ol VF days when I could refresh PPP and get a new IP with almost seamless transition.

If you were moving from fibre, to fibre then yeh thats crap. If you were going from copper to fibre then I can see why it would take them a while to complete the transition.

If you need a phone line, is there some reason you're not considering 2talk or some other option so you're less limited by your ISPs?

Personally I'm with MyRepublic. I've remarked before I had problems where I was basically lied to by the D2D sales agent about the promotion (said it was 1 year half price but it was actually 6 months) and was disappointed MyRepublic's response was basically sorry they gave you the wrong info. But I stuck with them because they were the only partially trustworth company offering 100/50 or better (meaning at least 50 upload) at the price at the time. I had no major problems with joining them although it was a new fibre connection, times etc were fine. Only problem I did have with the connection was the Chorus tech definitely did not follow the guidelines to bury the ducting 50 cm.

When my fibre connection stopped working a little over a year ago, MyRepublic's support was seriously overloaded taking ages to get any response so it took about 4? days to get it resolved and most of that time as because of the difficulty getting ahold of MyRepublic although once I did get ahold of them and convince them they needed to send a tech (which wasn't that hard despite the connection often coming back at night) it didn't take long. (Partially also because the fault was semi intermitted I didn't try contact them straight away.) I later realised since I was on the SOHO plan I had access to their business support which may have been better. I don't know if their support is faster now, I do know from experience with many ISPs that a lot of them seem to go through phases where their support is way too busy. (I think it didn't help that it was quite wet so probably a lot of VDSL related faults.)

I never seemed to have major speed issues. So I'd say over 15 years of NZ ISPs I still don't really agree MyRepublic is that bad. They're about standard for an NZ ISP.

But if I we choosing a gigabit connection, I'm not sure if I'd choose MyRepublic. Not so much because of support or anything like that but simply because it's not really that cheap considering they use CGNat and now charge $10/ month for a static IP. This means even with a 12 month contract it's $130 for gigabit with a phone line or $120 without and there are quite a few at that price point or better. (And $140/$130 without a contract.) Still if you definitely need a static IP rather than just no CGNAT, your options will be more limited since quite a few still have monthly charges.
