We installed a vast Anycast DNS solution, regionalised around the country to reduce DNS latency. Def worth a try to see if your "weird" issue is resolved.

If not, send me some details and we will check iut out.

I am currently considering switching to either Orcon or Slingshot because of an offer I simply cannot refuse. I just cannot decide which one.

I've been with orcon for over 10 years, performance and reliability have always been top notch

Is there actually any difference between the two network-wise anymore? I'm fairly sure they're different for support/billing, but outward appearances suggest a single network.

I think you're right, I'm with Orcon but whenever I do a speedtest it says my ISP is Slingshot?

They are separate VRF's on common hardware that connected to the same upstream platcorm. So, in effect they are the same network but IP blocks and both technical and billing policies may vary.

What happens to your email if you do switch to another ISP?

Don't. they are worse than bad - abysmal. Over a long period emails disappeared or their smtp server was unresponsive, they down graded me from 100/20 to 5020 without telling me and still charged me the full price, and sent me a crappy router that dropped my phone line. I suspect all the ISPs are the same. I switched to Orcon, dearer but their support and customer service is excellent and I have noticed a definite increase in my download speed. I think Chorus/Vocus may be part of the problem. As a good consumer: Cavet Emptor.

You do know that Slingshot + Orcon are essentially the same network, right? They're both owned by Vocus.

And no, not all ISP's are the same.

I've been with them for a long time (maybe 10 years)...

No real issues, but the odd little snag that has been easily solved with a call.

i have no burning desire to change.

I'm on the full-speed fibre all you can eat plan and it does us OK.
