I'm considering switching to slingshot as they have a deal online for the first six months free which makes their 900/500 plan an average of $75 a month!

Would you recommend them? Thanks so much!

I've been with them for 10 years. Ive had no reason to leave. In that time I've had 2 faults. One was with billing, one was with the VOIP. Both fixed quickly.

I've got friends on Slingshot and it is fine. They've got good peering too.

Slingshot / Orcon are the same company. Just be careful however as they try signing you up to power also (which is expensive and how they make the cost back).

Take a look at 2degrees also which I think is one of the best ISP's in NZ currently. They're offering $200 credit on a 12mo contract (works out to $93.33/mo over 12mo) but they also provide you with a much better router if that is your thing. You can also get a further $10 discount for having mobile with them.

Thanks everyone. The pricing of $75 a month (averaged for a year) is really tempting for a full gig of fibre? Does anyone else know of a better deal?

In terms of the router, I'm currently using an Asus Ac3200 t. I'm with Stuff at the moment and I switched their router for this one. Will I still be able to use it at Slingshot?

Thank you :)

It isn't all about cost - read my guide - https://murfy.nz/2018/02/picking-the-right-isp/

Stuff Fibre is incredibly good as an ISP these days. To be honest if you want a "good" ISP then I would personally use 2degrees or Stuff Fibre over Slingshot but that is me and my personal preference. If you're doing it for price then sure, change but make sure you know what you're signing up to.

I've been with them for a few months. I had a weird DNS issue but once I started using Google DNS it's been fine

Sorry for the semi-hijack. I'm looking at ISPs at the moment too.

@michaelmurfy What is the 2Degrees supplied modem - looks Draytek but I can't find specifics on their site?

It is a Fritz!Box. I don't have one but been told by others it is good.

I have fibre broadband with Slingshot for nearly a year now and I have had no issues with them. But like michaelmurfy said above, last month they rung my mobile phone and tried to get me to switch my power to them. As I have solar panels on my roof they cant supply power to me. Even if they could I would be reluctant to change as I am with a great power company as it is.

@howdystranger bad idea you should look into the issue and fix it and move back to SS DNS

I'm tempted to move across too. (12 month term with vodafone has expired, currently on the max plan at $129 per month).

The cheap price is really tempting, but I am willing to pay more elsewhere if I would get better performance.

Anybody care to compare slingshot and 2 degrees.

As I understand, the both support IPV6, and neither use CG-Nat...

Would be good if somebody on slingshot max speed plan could run a speed test to say the UK, and LA...

@scott3 not all traffic comes from the same location so that test is pointless you should be asking for things like number of hops to US / UK and what latency is like

Running speedtests to determine which ISP to switch a waste of time

Can you tell me more? It was nice not having problems, but I guess it may be worth investing some time in going back to Slingshot DNS...
