2D just won't have been able to set up on LAN1 as usual due to the old connection - the CSR may not have realised the limitations of not using LAN1 as it's not a common scenario...

Something close to that, yes. I now realise that this is exactly what has happened I didn’t know it mattered which LAN port you were on and neither, it would seem, do Chorus/2degrees.

2d would have been unable to provision you a Gigabit connection, the Chorus system won't allow it. I suspect it's a simple case of miscommunication where you've ordered a product that isn't possible so they've given you what is possible.

You're right, but it would be nice if they'd told me and made plans to rectify the issue. Presumably, someone along the line realised the implications of what was done. Of course, this is all speculation...

So I have an update, but not a resolution. We aren’t connected through Chorus but through UFF who have provisioned gigabit broadband on LAN2. Apparently UFF have green lights for all speeds and can use any LAN for gigabit internet.

The person I spoke with thinks that the problem lies with the brand new cable that they supplied or the Ethernet card in my desktop both of which I find hard to believe.

@2degreescare are also looking into it for me.

Nah it's fairly common for whoever does the ordering at 2degrees for that day to just hit cruise control and order default plan rates then have to lodge an upgrade order - UFF don't have an API so everything must be manually entered, it's madness at large scale.

I suspect you've been told a story of CYA, though I'm happy to be proven wrong.

If he's getting 200Mbps it would indicate he has a gig connection (otherwise he would flatline at 100Mbps). Try the nperf tests and see if it gets above 200Mbps at all - even just for a little time.

Try different speed servers too.
I got caught out a last year when I couldn't get more than 100mbs on my gig connection.

Went through all sorts of drama with cables, firmware upgrades etc.

Turned out the default closest server topped out at 100. When I changed to a server in Auckland, speed was 800+.

Thanks everyone for the tips. This morning I have used the 2d supplied ethernet cables and no joy. I have managed to get ~213 on the upload and around 160-180 for the download. The Fritzbox confirms that the LAN connections are gigabit. 2d have confirmed on the phone that they see their end as being correctly connected/provisioned as gigabit. I have managed on a test a few days ago to get 201 on the download, but nothing greater than this.

I have used both nperf and speedtest.net. nperf today connected to a "10GBit" server inn Auckland so I assume the speedtest server is capable. I'm at a loss really. I think @2degreescare are still looking into things for me but not sure I'm going to get anywhere.

I'll try another computer when I get the chance to borrow one.

Any other ideas?

So something at my end is the issue then? Not had the chance to try another set of cables yet or borrow a laptop to try a different Ethernet card. I have had a new router arrive today but that is for Wi-fi coverage rather than Ethernet. I’m at a loss otherwise.

Looking like the provisioning of the service is as expected and working - Testing from another device via a LAN cable would seem like the best way forward.
