Hi All,

Sorry about the delay on the response/update (I was waiting for someone to return from leave and update me) - We are seeing occasional packet loss on our direct link back to the US (we have alternatives with higher latency). All paper work is signed for additional capacity which will be in place in the coming weeks which will effectively double our direct capacity to the US (transiting back up the SX cable to US based content) vs. Bouncing around Australia and beyond.

Unfortunately RFP's and Christmas timings haven't worked in our favour this time - We have plenty of capacity, just need more direct for US based content, trade off being latency.

Nick.

Thanks for the update @NickMack, no need to be sorry as I wasn't expecting anything till people started filtering back to work :)

What about the speeds from Wellington compared to Auckland to the 2degrees speedtest servers? The explanation offered to me by the helpdesk was the fact we're going through an additional pop versus Auckland going more or less direct to the US and Aus

Hiya,

On Dec 19th we upgraded to the latest version of speedtest on all our servers (As they were stopping support for the version we were on, which wasn't very old), however, I'm yet to have the team look into this further. I noted that the speedtest service has been less reliable in browsers since the upgrade / or timing (nothing conclusive here).. so we need to have a look and investigate further. Our speedtest guru is away for another week or so, so I'll have him look at this upon his return.

Nick.

Cool, thanks for that

I'll see what results I get with the W10 app in the mean time

The win10 app doesn't let you search for locations, so I could only test Sydney

Still 300 odd Mbps shy of what SamF gets based in Auckland

I will add that it's not really an issue, I'm just interested to know why there's such a big difference between Auckland and Wellington

Yeah I know you can scroll down, but I can't speedtest to the 2degrees LA server for example because it doesn't list all servers, and you can't search either

It's obviously listing in order of "distance" which is fine normally but not in this instance of wanting to test a specific server in the US

We have made some changes to our AU and US speedtest servers after deploying the new version. Feedback appreciated.

Nick - replies will be a little slow, currently travelling.

Definite improvement, nice work @NickMack and team.

The upstream to LA seems a little slower, but otherwise all good

If you are using Win 10 can I suggest you do speedtests using the Win 10 app instead of doing it in the browser? I've found I get much better results with the app and having chrome shut

The Sydney test was through the win10 app, the LA one isn't because.. well.. try find LA in the Win10 app

I'm not with 2Degrees but from what I can see Nick, From my previous tests to the 2degrees servers to now the changes have been a decent improvement,

You would now be one of my best to LA and decent on the Sydney one as well,

Sorry, missed the latest updates to this thread.

My LA upload is still not brilliant:

I've seen better to Sydney as well, but it's ok:

Also, tests to Sydney often fail to complete or fail to start.

Auckland is fine:

Interesting. I'm on 2degrees in Wellington gig plan and my speeds have dropped a bit over there recent months.
Here are some latest tests run ~ 5 mins ago.

To Auckland- 2degrees

To Sydney - 2degrees

To Los Angeles - 2degrees

Update 30/01/19

Hi All,

We are working closely with our upstream provider to double our capacity for our direct US capacity, this is hoping to be in place by mid February.

Nick.
