My apologies if I offended anyone before. No offense intended.

It was not meant to be a racial slur, but in hindsight, I can see how it could be construed as such.

My heads full of a cold which is no excuse I know.

Thanks Freitasm for taking the post down and lesson learned. Al.

Orcon is alright.

Orcon's network itself is modern, with decent handovers.

Orcon have good international bandwidth, and being a Vocus Group subsidiary they have open and fairly aggressive (proactive?) peering.

Price is attractive.

I'm not sure how support is, I've had poor experiences with their support long ago in the past, but there have been many changes since then.

Thanks all for valued inputs. MyRepublic does not have a lot of good reports and I guess their sister ISP in Australia is the same group and its even worse:

Seems Orcon is the choice for economic and reliable fiber option.

I'm on the enable network with gigabit. I got a fritz box a couple of years ago which is good enough for most use cases. Gigabit Speeds are good 945/530. International speeds are good as well normally 400+/200+ to Aussie and USA. The only thing that has happened recently is ping to Aussie has come up over the last 2 months was 29-35 now its 44-50ms.

Pretty sure it's the NF18ACV - from my experience they are stable enough, but have very poor wireless. I think Vocus have been working with Netcomm on improving some of the niggles with them? Not 100% on that though. If you don't need voice, I'd recommend getting your own decent router (an edgerouter with a separate wireless AP is a really good & stable option, but does require a little more technical setup than your average router).

Edit - found the thread RE firmware improvements here

Ive got an NF4V I ordered a week back for VDSL till I changed my mind (about VDSL), and can couple that up with my trusty DIR-825 with Gargoyle firmware for wireless and firewalling.

Think the DIR-825 is only capable of around 200 - 300mbps WAN throughput so if you wanted to go for Gig Fibre you would definitely want a more powerful router.

Orcon's usual supplied device is the NF18ACV - and their recent firmware does resolve some of the Wifi Issues.

As long as your device can support VLAN ID 10 on the WAN port you should be fine.

I'm thinking about making a change once my contract is up as well. I was with Orcon but many, many years ago. Looking at their page, there doesn't seem to be an option to use your own router (nor is there an open term plan option). Do you need to use their router? I'm quite happy with my one. Also, do they do open term contracts? No need for a landline, just fibre broadband.

Yes same as me Ive already got a Netcomm NF4V so I dont need another despite them trying to talk me around their modem is also a Netcomm and its $14.95 handling charge with free rental for the first term. Despite the guy being quite pushy about using their one, I told them to leave it as an option (in case the wheels fall off the NF4V). Thats perfectly fine.

They have a mighty Fiber unlimited deal at the moment (must be just about over) 6 months 1/2 price, means I get phone et all for about $45/month on a 12 month contract beats Flip $85/month ADSL.

I'm on Enable too, Gigabit plan etc... same speeds. Exact same issue with the latency to Aus (and other parts of the world). Wondering if it'll ever come back down...

I have just joined Orcon Gigantic 12 month plan ordered through the GZ link.

I am using an HG659 router.... I am not going to bother using the Orcon modem/router when it arrives.
